Tears streamed down Laith's face as he walked home.
Laith was a weak and average-height child; his face wasn't particularly handsome due to the bullying he endured in high school.
He had dark circles under his eyes because he didn't sleep well, and his black hair was disheveled.
His home was an apartment in a residential complex in downtown Spring.
Spring City was the richest and most developed city in the country.
Therefore, all the people came here to get various things.
He and his family had been living in the city for four years.
His father was a policeman, specifically an investigator of violent crimes.
He had two sisters, both in university.
His sisters were twins and lived in university housing, so he didn't see them much.
His mother was a doctor and also spent most of her time at work.
That's why he's going back home now, because there's no one there and he can be alone.
'Do I have to cause trouble to leave school for a while?'
Laith stopped at the red traffic light, as cars were passing through the street.
He would have reached his home after crossing the street, but he thought of something else.
'Will I die if I throw myself at a speeding car?'
He wanted to stop studying, and his hospitalization was one of the reasons.
But after a moment, he shook his head, rejecting the idea.
'Why should I suffer? They're the ones who should pay the price.'
The traffic light has changed to green.
Laith crossed the street and walked towards the residential complex. He arrived after 10 minutes.
It was a large complex with about 150 houses, and his house was on the fourth floor.
He walked towards the elevator and, as he passed it, noticed the absence of the children who always waited for their fathers in front of the complex after leaving nursery school.
He entered the elevator and before pressing the button for the fourth floor, he pressed the fifth, but before the elevator door closed
A man carrying a child was spotted heading down to the complex's parking garage.
'I've never seen that man before.'
The elevator doors closed and he began moving towards the fifth floor. Moments later, Laith arrived.
He spoke to himself:
"I hope Grandma took her medicine."
The person he was going to see was his teacher's grandmother.
His teacher was a student at a university and had taught Laith the previous year. He always looked forward to her lessons because she was always kind to him.
She would ask him to make sure that Grandma took her medicine on the days she couldn't come home.
Laith walked down the corridor, but before reaching Grandma's house, he noticed some apartments with their doors open.
"What is this? Why are these doors open?"
He moved closer to the doors and smelled a foul odor.
"What's that smell?"
He was about to enter the open apartment, but the sound of something stopped him.
"This sound is coming from the direction of Grandma's apartment."
Laith glanced at the open apartment door, then closed it.
"Why should I care? It's not even my house."
Laith continued on his way and noticed more apartments with open doors along the way.
"This has become strange."
And a strange sound was emanating more
He arrived at Grandma's apartment and found her door open as well, and the sound was coming from inside.
Laith said hesitantly,
"Grandma, are you here?"
But the sound didn't stop; it was like chewing.
"Grandma, I'm coming inside."
Laith entered slowly and smelled the scent again.
'What the hell is that smell?'
He moved slowly, but upon reaching the living room, he froze in place, shocked.
His eyes widened and sweat began to pour from his forehead, then he fell to the ground with his mouth open in shock.
He saw someone eating the grandmother's body.
