Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 – The Fractured Bond

The understanding of betrayal made me hostile. I couldn't hold back; I grabbed the butterfly knife from my pocket and stabbed the lamb. The lamb shrieked, then collapsed. A tear rolled down 'her' cheek, I couldn't say anything, not a word to comfort her, argue with her, or even say the truth to her. My smile turned wide, I stared at the lamb in shame and joy. I would "never let anyone enter my life again". I laughed hesitantly, while Shiro stood there crying hard, daring to never look at me in the eye ever, again. I breathed in the metallic scent of blood. My emotions were scattered, heart sank, while I stood their realizing what I've done. This was my first time killing someone or something out of 'jealousy'.

I moved forward; she moved back. We weren't far apart, but I could feel our thread collapse. I slowly curved my fingers into a fist behind my back. "Shiro" My voice cracked. She flinched. The tiny reaction hit harder than any scream could have. "I don't understand, you've gone insane, you're not like the person you used to be" Her voice was thin and fragile. I slowly opened my mouth… but nothing came out. Her words weren't angry, even worse, they were… honest. Something inside me splintered – a quiet, painful crack. Jealousy. Betrayal. Instinct – "None of it sounded like anything a sane person would say, and none of it would make her understand."

Another tear rolled down her cheek, then another. She wiped her cheek with the back of her hand but smeared the tear instead. My chest tightened, a dull, empty ache washed over. My knees gave out, and I sank to the ground loosely.

The bond was broken, and for the first time, I felt truly, terrifyingly alone.

I sank to the ground in shame. I stared at Shiro, as she ran away, terrified at what she had just seen. I gripped my chest, hard. I felt the first, cold tear slices my skin, then the rest started falling. I got up from my knees, and Shiro was out of sight… already. I stared at the ground blankly, thinking "what have I done, the person who trusted me most now… doesn't". I walked slowly with my feet shuffling through the brown, Autumn leaves. A memory returned, a memory where I met Shiro once - we made a deal, where we would never leave each other. Then her finger wrapped around my finger became something we'd call… 'promise'.

I ran around searching for Shiro, worries spread throughout my entire body. Without Shiro, my life was about to end and so was hers. Our fate was bound to each other.
