Chapter 375: The One He Hadn't Said
Day 22 opened grey and still, the kind of morning that made the camp move slower than usual. Kai woke with the group test already turned over a dozen times in his head, and none of the turning had changed the shape of it.
Pool at ninety-one percent. He noted it and lay still a moment longer than he needed to.
The camp around him was already awake in pieces. A kettle went at Edra's fire. The record-keeper boy walked the ring's rim from habit rather than instruction. Pell recalibrated an instrument she had already checked twice the day before.
Nobody said much. Everybody kept glancing at the same patch of ground.
Soren found him at the fire, notebook already open to yesterday's numbers. "I've been staring at this table since before you woke up. Six results that track with cost. One that doesn't track with anything I can measure."
"You want to run it again."
