Chapter 378: What It Wouldn't Say
Day 25 opened grey again, the same grey Zone Ten had worn for a week straight. Kai's pool sat at ninety-three percent, close to the overnight ceiling. He noted it before he was fully awake.
The camp had settled into a rhythm over three weeks that no longer needed instructions. Someone built up the fires before dawn. Someone else checked the water. Nobody asked whose turn it was anymore.
Soren was already at the fire when Kai sat down, notebook closed for once, both hands wrapped around a cup he wasn't drinking from.
"You didn't sleep," Kai said.
"I slept. I just kept thinking between the parts where I slept." Soren set the cup down. "I want to say something out loud, and I want you to tell me if I'm wrong before Mira gets here."
"Say it."
