Chapter 389: Still Listening
Day 36 opened before Mira reached the fire. Kai was already crouched over it, feeding it two sticks at a time, a cup already warming a few inches from the coals.
"You beat me to it," she said, sitting down across from him.
"That was the point." He handed her the cup. "You said it was my turn."
"I did." She took it without hesitating. "You remembered the exact wording."
"I remember most things you say to me plainly." He didn't add anything to that. He didn't need to.
She drank half the cup before she spoke again. "You didn't wait for me to bring it up. That's new."
"You told me it was my turn. I don't need reminding twice."
"No," she agreed. "You never have. That's part of why I stopped counting how many times I've had to."
