Leaving the dramatic Pinkan Island behind, Ash and his friends continued their journey through the Orange Archipelago.
Carried by Lapras, they arrived at an island where the vegetation was exceptionally lush and the air hummed with the constant chirping of insectsMurcott Island. According to the Pokédex, this place was a primary habitat for many Bug-type Pokémon.
"So this is Murcott Island? The air feels so full of life," Tracey said, taking a deep breath of the scent of greenery. As a Pokémon Watcher, he was particularly fascinated by such environments.
As the three of them followed a forest path, Tracey's Marill and Venonat led the way to scout ahead. Suddenly, Venonat let out a warning cry, and the group rushed forward to investigate.
In a clearing, they found a Scyther collapsed helplessly on the ground. Its iconic scythe-arms were covered in scratches of varying depths, and its body was riddled with wounds. Its green carapace had lost its luster, looking dull and fadedclear signs that it had just endured a fierce battle and sustained heavy injuries.
"It's a Scyther! It's hurt!" Misty cried out in shock.
Ash's Aura swept over the Scyther, allowing him to clearly feel the creature's physical weakness, as well as a deep-seated sense of frustration and loneliness. He noticed that this Scyther was slightly larger than average, and the edges of its scythes showed signs of wear. It was clearly quite old.
Drawing on his memories of the original story, Ash immediately understood the situation. This was likely an individual that had been driven out of its swarm after losing a leadership challenge due to its advancing age.
"It looks like it's in a lot of pain. We have to help it!" Tracey said anxiously. He immediately pulled out some Potions and bandages, preparing to step forward.
"Be careful," Ash cautioned. "Wild Pokémon are extremely wary when they're injured."
Sure enough, as Tracey approached, the Scyther struggled to raise its scythe despite its weakness, letting out a threatening low growl.
"Venonat, please, use Sleep Powder!" Tracey commanded his Pokémon.
Venonat shook its body, releasing a fine blue powder that drifted toward the Scyther. The injured Pokémon was too slow to react; after inhaling the powder, its eyes began to glaze over, its struggling weakened, and it finally fell into a deep slumber.
"Alright, now's our chance!" Tracey and Ash carefully lifted the large Scyther and, guided by Marill, rushed it to the Murcott Island Pokémon Center as fast as they could.
After careful treatment by Nurse Joy and Blissey, the Scyther's condition stabilized, though it still needed time to recover. Tracey took it upon himself to care for it, gently cleaning its body and feeding it Pokémon food. At first, the Scyther remained guarded, but under Tracey's gentle care and consistent attention, it gradually lowered its guard, and a hint of gratitude appeared in its eyes.
Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, the Team Rocket duo (Meowth was still sulking over the events on Pinkan Island and wasn't speaking) encountered an unexpected "disaster." Jessie's carefully maintained long red hair was caught in the wake of several high-speed Scyther flying by, and several strands were sliced right off!
"Ah! My hair!" Jessie screamed at the top of her lungs, looking at her uneven locks. "Unforgivable! Those cursed Scyther!"
"Calm down, Jessie..." James tried to soothe her.
"Shut up! How can I bear this? We're going to catch every last one of those bugs!" Furious and irrational, Jessie worked with James to set up a trap. They managed to capture a large migrating swarm of Scyther, trapping them inside a specialized energy net.
News of the capture soon reached the Pokémon Center. The elderly Scyther, having regained some of its spirit, became agitated the moment it heard its swarm had been caught. It struggled to stand, its eyes filled with desperation and resolve. It tapped its scythes against the floor, let out a series of urgent cries toward Tracey.
"You want to go save them? But your injuries haven't healed yet..." Tracey said, worried.
Ash looked at the elderly Scyther. Though it had been cast out by the swarm, it didn't hesitate to stand up for them in their time of need. This protective heart moved him.
"Let it go, Tracey," Ash said. "This is its will and its dignity. Besides, we'll go and help too."
"Ash is right," Misty added her support. "We can't just stand by while Team Rocket causes trouble!"
The old Scyther cast a grateful glance at Ash and then looked firmly at Tracey. Understanding its determination, Tracey nodded solemnly. "Alright! We'll go together! From today on, you're my partner! Let's save your swarm together!"
He took out an empty Poké Ball and gently touched it to the Scyther's forehead. Scyther did not resist; it allowed itself to be drawn into the ball, signaling its acceptance of Tracey as its Trainer.
"Great! I caught a Scyther!" Tracey cheered as he held up the Poké Ball, though he quickly turned serious. "Now, it's time for our first mission together!"
Led by Tracey's Scyther, the group quickly located the place where Team Rocket was holding the swarm.
"Hahaha! With this many Scyther, we'll make a fortune!" Jessie laughed triumphantly.
"Exactly, exactly!" James chimed in.
"Team Rocket! Let them go!" Ash shouted.
"You persistent brats again!" Jessie snapped, her temper rising. "Enough talk! Arbok, use Poison Sting!"
"Weezing, use Sludge!"
"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt to intercept!"
"Staryu, use Rapid Spin for protection!"
Ash and Misty immediately engaged, keeping Team Rocket's Pokémon busy.
"Scyther, it's up to you!" Tracey shouted to his partner.
The elderly Scyther's eyes were sharp. Though its wounds weren't fully healed, its presence was as imposing as ever. It knew it didn't have the strength for a head-on assault on the energy net, but it had wisdom and an intimate knowledge of its own kind.
Instead of attacking the net directly, it flew rapidly around it. Using its worn but still-sharp scythes, it struck precisely at the key connection points and energy nodes of the net! Its movements were swift and experienced; every strike landed perfectly, sending out showers of electric sparks.
The trapped Scyther saw a glimmer of hope and began to coordinate their attacks from the inside, slamming against the net.
"Curses! That old Scyther is destroying the device!" James realized the problem.
"Go stop it!" Jessie yelled.
But Pikachu and Staryu kept Arbok and Weezing pinned down. Tracey's Marill and Venonat also joined the fray, using Water Gun and Confusion to create more chaos for the villains.
Finally, under the relentless efforts of the old Scyther and the pressure from the swarm within, the energy net emitted a high-pitched hum as it overloaded. It flickered a few times and then abruptly died!
"We did it!" Tracey cheered.
The swarm of Scyther, now free, turned their angry gazes toward Team Rocket. Following a high-pitched command from the elderly Scyther, they didn't linger to fight but quickly gathered and flew off in an orderly fashion, showing remarkable discipline.
The old Scyther watched the swarm depart safely, its eyes reflecting a sense of relief. It flew back to Tracey's side, exhausted but with a resolute gaze.
"You did a great job, Scyther!" Tracey said, petting its hard carapace in sincere admiration.
On the other side, seeing that the situation was lost, Team Rocket was sent flying into the distance by a parting gift of the swarm's fury and Pikachu's Thunderbolt.
"Why do even the bugs pick on us?!"
"We're blasting off again!"
Watching Team Rocket disappear into a twinkle in the sky, Tracey looked at the Scyther beside him. Though old, it was still majestic, its eyes alight with renewed purpose. Tracey felt a deep sense of satisfaction. Not only had he befriended a respectable Pokémon, but together they had protected something precious.
"Thank you, Ash, Misty," Tracey said sincerely.
"Don't mention it," Ash replied with a smile. "This was the result of yours and Scyther's hard work."
Under the setting sun, Tracey's Scyther stood tall and proud, as if it had reclaimed its former glory. Its journey was beginning anew, in a different way, by Tracey's side.
