Chapter 1 - Shadows of you

Chapter 1: The Letter

Rain tapped softly against the window as Aisha unfolded the letter with trembling hands.

There was no sender's name. No address. Just one line written in dark ink—

"You were never supposed to remember."

Her heartbeat quickened.

"Who… sent this?" she whispered to the empty room.

Aisha had moved to this quiet town to escape her past. New job. New home. New life.

Or at least, that's what she thought.

A sudden knock on the door made her freeze.

Three slow knocks.

Not hurried. Not polite.

Intentional.

She hesitated… then opened it.

A tall man stood outside, drenched from the rain.

Chapter 2:

The Stranger Knows

Aisha's fingers tightened around the edge of the door.

"Watching me?" she repeated, her voice low but steady. "I think you've got the wrong person."

Arjun didn't move. Rain dripped from his hair onto the floor, but his gaze never left her face.

"I don't make mistakes," he said calmly. "You got a letter today, didn't you?"

Aisha's heart skipped.

How does he know that?

She tried to hide it, but silence betrayed her.

Arjun exhaled slowly. "Let me guess… no name, no address. Just a message that doesn't make sense."

Aisha stepped back further, now fully alert. "Who are you?"

"I told you—Arjun."

"That's not what I meant!"

For a moment, he looked like he was debating something. Then he reached into his jacket.

Aisha flinched. "Don't—!"

He stopped immediately and slowly pulled out… a photograph.

"Look at this first," he said.

She hesitated, then took it.

The moment her eyes fell on the image, her breath caught in her throat.

It was her.

But not the version of her she knew.

In the photograph, Aisha stood beside Arjun—smiling, close, almost intimate. Behind them was a place she didn't recognize.

A memory that didn't exist.

"This is not real," she whispered.

"It is," Arjun said softly. "You just don't remember it."

Chapter 3:

Pieces of the Past

"Stop it," Aisha snapped, handing the photo back. "I've never seen you before in my life."

Arjun took the photo but didn't argue.

"That's exactly the problem."

Silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating.

Aisha shook her head. "You need to leave."

"Not until you're safe."

"I am safe!"

Right then, the lights flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then went out completely.

Darkness swallowed the room.

Aisha gasped. "What just happened?!"

Arjun's voice dropped to a whisper. "They found you."

"Who is 'they'?!" she demanded.

Before he could answer—

A sharp sound came from the back of the house.

A window shattering.

Aisha's blood ran cold.

Arjun grabbed her wrist. "We don't have time. We need to go. Now."

"I'm not going anywhere with you!"

Another sound. Closer this time.

Footsteps.

Not one person.

Multiple.

Arjun's grip tightened—not rough, but urgent.

"If you stay, you die. If you come with me… you might remember everything."

Aisha's mind screamed to resist.

But her instincts… her instincts said run.

Another crash echoed through the house.

This time, she didn't argue.

"Okay," she whispered. "I'm coming."

Chapter 4:

Running in the Dark

The back door slammed open as Aisha and Arjun rushed out into the rain.

Cold air hit her face, but she didn't stop running.

"Who are they?!" she gasped.

"People who erased your past," Arjun replied, pulling her toward a narrow alley. "And now they want to erase you too."

Her mind spun. "That doesn't make any sense!"

"It will," he said. "When you remember."

A flashlight beam cut through the darkness behind them.

"THERE!" someone shouted.

Arjun cursed under his breath. "Too close."

He suddenly pulled her against the wall, shielding her with his body as footsteps rushed past the alley entrance.

Aisha's breath caught.

They were inches apart.

Rain dripping. Hearts racing.

"Stay quiet," he whispered.

She could feel his heartbeat—fast, but steady. Protective.

For a moment… the fear faded.

"Why are you helping me?" she whispered back.

Arjun looked at her like the answer was obvious.

"Because I never stopped."

Aisha frowned. "Stopped what?"

But before he could answer—

A gunshot echoed.

The chase was back on.

Chapter 5:

A Memory That Hurts

They finally reached an abandoned warehouse at the edge of town.

Inside, it was dark… but safe. For now.

Aisha leaned against a wall, trying to catch her breath.

"This is insane… none of this is real…"

Arjun stepped closer. "Look at me."

She didn't want to. But she did.

"You trusted me once," he said softly. "More than anyone."

"I don't even know you!"

"You loved me."

The words hit harder than the gunshot.

Aisha shook her head immediately. "No. No, that's not true."

Arjun didn't argue.

Instead, he reached out slowly… giving her time to pull away.

She didn't.

His fingers gently brushed against her wrist—

And suddenly—

⚡ A flash.

A memory.

Aisha laughing. Running through sunlight. Arjun beside her.

His voice: "If anything happens, I'll find you. Always."

She gasped and pulled back.

"What… was that?!"

"Your memory," Arjun said. "A piece of it."

Her heart pounded. "This is not possible…"

But deep down… it felt real.

Too real.

Chapter 6:

The Betrayal

A loud creak echoed behind them.

Both turned instantly.

A figure stepped out of the shadows… slow, calm.

Clapping.

"Well," the man said with a smile, "this reunion is touching."

Aisha froze.

Her voice trembled.

"…Rohan?"

He smiled wider. "Hello, Aisha."

Her best friend.

The one person she trusted in this town.

Arjun's expression darkened. "I was hoping it wasn't you."

Aisha looked between them. "What's going on?!"

Rohan sighed. "You really don't remember anything, do you?"

"No!"

"Then let me help," he said casually. "You were part of us, Aisha. You worked with us."

Her stomach dropped. "No… that's not true…"

"You were one of our best," he continued. "Until you fell in love with him."

Silence.

Heavy. Crushing.

Aisha slowly turned to Arjun.

"…Is that true?"

Arjun didn't look away.

"Yes."

Rohan chuckled. "And love made her weak. So we fixed the problem."

Aisha's voice cracked. "You… erased my memory?"

"Of course," Rohan said. "But looks like some feelings don't erase so easily."

Aisha stepped back, shaking.

Everything she knew… was breaking.

Chapter 7:

Choice of the Heart

Rohan pulled out a gun.

"Come back with me, Aisha," he said calmly. "We can fix this again."

Arjun stepped in front of her instantly.

"She's not going anywhere."

Rohan tilted his head. "Still protecting her? Even now?"

"Always."

Aisha felt something inside her shift.

Fear… turning into clarity.

Another flash—

Arjun holding her.

Her voice: "If I forget you… will you remind me?"

His reply: "Every single time."

Tears filled her eyes.

She stepped forward.

Not toward Rohan.

Toward Arjun.

"I don't remember everything," she said softly…

"But I know one thing."

She grabbed Arjun's hand.

"I trust him."

Rohan's smile disappeared.

"Wrong choice."

Gun raised.

Shot fired—

Final Chapter:

The Last Memory

The gunshot echoed through the warehouse.

For a moment… everything went silent.

Aisha felt a sudden force push her back.

She hit the ground hard.

"…Arjun?" her voice trembled.

He was standing in front of her.

No—

Not standing.

Swaying.

A dark stain spread across his shirt.

Aisha's eyes widened in horror.

"No… no no no…"

Arjun had taken the bullet.

💔 The Fall

"A-Arjun!" she crawled toward him as he collapsed to his knees.

Rohan lowered the gun slowly, his expression unreadable.

"Still choosing her over your life… disappointing."

"Shut up!" Aisha screamed.

She held Arjun as he fell into her arms.

His breathing was uneven.

Weak.

"Why would you do that?!" she cried. "Why?!"

Arjun smiled faintly, his hand trembling as it reached her face.

"Because…" he whispered,

"I promised."

Tears streamed down her cheeks.

"You're not allowed to die! You hear me?! I just… I just found you…"

His fingers brushed her hair gently.

"You never lost me," he said softly.

"You just forgot…"

⚡ The Final Memory

Aisha clutched his hand tightly.

"Don't go… please don't go…"

Another flash hit her—

Stronger than before.

Everything came back.

Their first meeting.

Their fights.

Their laughter.

Their love.

The moment she chose him over everything.

The moment they tried to escape.

The moment she begged him—

"If I forget you… don't give up on me."

Aisha gasped.

"I remember…" she whispered, shaking.

"I remember everything…"

Arjun's eyes softened.

"Good…" he breathed. "Then… I did it right."

🥀 The Goodbye

"Stay with me," Aisha begged. "We can still run… we can still—"

"No," Arjun interrupted gently.

His strength was fading.

"This was always how it ends for me."

"Don't say that!"

"But not for you," he said. "You get to live."

She shook her head desperately. "Not without you!"

Arjun smiled faintly.

"You already did once."

That broke her.

Completely.

🖤 The Last Words

Rohan watched silently as the moment unfolded.

Arjun's grip weakened.

"Aisha…" he whispered.

"I'm here…"

"If they try to take you again…"

"Run."

"I won't leave you!"

"You have to," he said softly.

"For both of us."

Tears blurred her vision.

"I love you…" she choked.

Arjun looked at her one last time.

Like he was memorizing her.

"I know."

A small breath escaped him.

Then—

Nothing.

🌧️ After

Rain poured harder outside.

Aisha sat there… holding him.

Not moving.

Not speaking.

Just… breaking.

Rohan finally stepped forward.

"It's over," he said quietly.

Aisha didn't respond.

Slowly… she lifted her tear-filled eyes.

But something had changed.

The fear was gone.

Only emptiness remained.

"You were wrong," she said softly.

Rohan frowned. "About what?"

Aisha gently placed Arjun's hand down.

Then stood up.

"You erased my memory," she said.

"But not my love."

Silence.

Cold.

Dangerous.

"And now…" she looked at him, eyes burning—

"You're going to regret it."

🌙 Epilogue: A Shadow That Never Leaves

Months later—

Aisha disappeared.

No records. No trace.

Some say she's being hunted.

Others say she's hunting.

But in quiet moments…

when the rain falls just right—

She still whispers his name.

And somewhere in her mind…

he answers.
