Chapter 1 - "When the fields waited "

Part 1:A Silent Beginning

Chapter 1:

The Village Girl

In a quiet village surrounded by green fields and golden sunsets lived Madhuri, a simple rural girl. Her world was small—mud houses, a pond, and endless fields of paddy that swayed like waves in the wind.

She woke up before sunrise, helped her mother, and spent evenings sitting under a banyan tree, dreaming of a life she could never quite imagine.

She had never seen a city. Never met strangers.

Until one day—everything changed.

Chapter 2:

The Soldier Returns

Arjun, a soldier, came back to the village on leave. He was not from there, but his uncle lived in Madhuri's village.

He wore his uniform like pride itself. Strong, silent, with eyes that had seen both courage and pain.

The whole village admired him.

But Madhuri?

She was afraid to even look at him.

Until one evening at the pond, their eyes met.

And something quietly began.

Chapter 3:

The First Words

Days passed before they spoke.

Arjun saw her every day—carrying water, feeding cows, laughing with friends. She was simple, but there was a softness in her presence that calmed his restless mind.

One day, he finally said:

"Do you always come here at sunset?"

Madhuri looked down and replied softly,

"Yes… the fields look beautiful then."

That was the beginning.

Chapter 4:

Love Grows Like Crops

Their meetings became regular.

They talked about everything—

Her dreams.

His life at the border.

Her fear of the unknown.

His fear of losing people.

Arjun had seen death.

Madhuri had only seen life.

And yet, they understood each other deeply.

Like rain and soil—different, but made for each other.

Chapter 5:

The Promise

One evening, under the same banyan tree, Arjun said:

"I don't know what tomorrow brings… but I know I want you in it."

Madhuri's eyes filled with tears.

"A soldier's life is uncertain… what if you never come back?"

He smiled, hiding his pain.

"Then… remember me when the fields turn green."

She held his hand for the first time.

And whispered,

"I will wait."

Chapter 6:

Separation

The leave ended.

The village gathered to say goodbye.

Madhuri stood far away, unable to step forward. But Arjun walked up to her.

Without words, he placed a small cloth in her hand.

Inside was his army badge.

"Keep it… until I return."

He left.

And the village felt empty.

Chapter 7:

Waiting

Days turned into months.

Madhuri waited at the pond every evening.

Letters came at first—

Short, simple, full of hope.

Then… they stopped.

The silence grew heavier than words.

But she never stopped waiting.

Chapter 8:

The News

One afternoon, army officers came to the village.

Madhuri's heart started beating fast.

She knew.

Before they even spoke—she knew.

Arjun had died at the border.

A martyr.

A hero.

Gone.

Chapter 9:

The Fields Still Grow

The village cried.

But Madhuri did not.

She walked to the banyan tree, held the badge close to her heart, and sat quietly.

Days passed.

Seasons changed.

The fields turned green again.

Just like he had said.

And every evening, she sat there, looking at the horizon… as if he would walk back through the fields.

Chapter 10:

Forever Waiting

Years later, people still saw her at sunset.

Same place. Same silence.

They said she never married.

Never moved on.

Because for her—

Love was not about living together.

It was about waiting… even when there was no return.

Part 2: Love Against Time

Chapter 11:

A Love That Could Not Hide

After that evening, everything changed.

Madhuri and Arjun no longer pretended.

Their eyes spoke openly now. Their meetings were longer, filled with laughter, silence, and something deeper—belonging.

But villages have eyes.

And whispers travel faster than wind.

One afternoon, Madhuri's mother asked sharply,

"Where do you go every evening?"

Madhuri froze.

"To the pond… like always."

"Don't lie to me," her mother said. "People are talking."

Fear crept into Madhuri's heart.

That night, she couldn't sleep.

Love had brought warmth…

But now, it brought fear too.

Chapter 12:

The Weight of Society

The next day, her father spoke.

"There's a proposal," he said. "A good family. The boy owns land."

Madhuri felt the ground slip beneath her feet.

"I… I don't want to marry now," she whispered.

Her father's face hardened.

"This is not your choice."

That evening, she ran to the banyan tree.

Arjun was already there.

"They want me to get married," she said, tears streaming down her face.

Arjun clenched his fists.

"To whom?"

"It doesn't matter," she cried. "I don't want anyone else."

He stepped closer.

"Then don't."

"It's not that simple!" she shouted. "You'll leave… and I'll be alone here."

Silence.

Then Arjun said something he had never said before:

"Come with me."

Madhuri looked up, shocked.

"Leave everything… and come with me."

Her heart wanted to say yes.

But her world… held her back.

"I can't," she whispered.

Chapter 13:

The Promise That Hurt

The days became heavier.

They met less. Talked less.

But felt more.

One evening, Arjun placed something in her hand again—his army badge.

"If I don't return… this will remind you that I loved you."

Madhuri shook her head, crying.

"Don't say that!"

He forced a smile.

"It's the truth of my life."

She held his hand tightly.

"Then promise me… you'll come back."

He looked at her for a long moment.

"I promise… I'll try."

Chapter 14:

The Departure

The day came too soon.

Arjun had to leave.

The entire village gathered again.

But this time, the air was heavy.

Madhuri stood far away, her heart breaking silently.

Arjun walked toward her.

For a moment, the world disappeared.

"I'll come back," he said softly.

"I'll wait," she replied.

No tears. No drama.

Just a promise.

And then—

He left.

Part 3: War and Waiting

Chapter 15:

Letters and Longing

At first, letters came regularly.

"Madhuri, the nights are cold here… but I think of the village."

"Madhuri, I saw the sunrise today… it reminded me of you."

She read them again and again.

They were her only happiness.

But slowly…

The letters stopped.

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks into months.

Silence grew louder.

Chapter 16:

The Breaking Point

Back in the village, pressure increased.

"You can't wait forever," her mother said.

The marriage proposal returned.

This time, her father didn't ask.

He decided.

The wedding date was fixed.

Madhuri felt her world collapsing.

That night, she ran to the pond and cried like never before.

"Why did you come into my life…" she whispered into the darkness.

Chapter 17:

The News

Three days before the wedding—

Army officers arrived.

The entire village gathered.

Madhuri's heart knew before her ears heard.

"Soldier Arjun Singh… martyred in action."

The words echoed like thunder.

Everything went silent.

Madhuri didn't cry.

Didn't scream.

She just stood there—

As if time had stopped.

Part 4: The Love That Stayed

Chapter 18:

A Life That Ended Without Death

The wedding was canceled.

The village mourned a hero.

But no one understood Madhuri's silence.

She stopped talking.

Stopped laughing.

Stopped living.

But she didn't die.

Because something inside her… refused to let go.

Chapter 19:

The Banyan Tree

Every evening, she returned to the banyan tree.

The same place.

The same time.

Holding the badge.

Waiting.

Seasons changed.

Rain came and went.

The fields turned green, then golden, then empty again.

But Madhuri stayed.

Chapter 20:

Years Later

People started saying:

"She's lost her mind."

But she hadn't.

She remembered everything.

Every word.

Every promise.

A little girl once asked her,

"Didi, who are you waiting for?"

Madhuri smiled softly.

"My soldier."

"Will he come back?"

She looked at the horizon.

"Yes."

Because for her—

Love didn't end with death.

Final Chapter: When the Fields Waited

One evening, as the sun set and the sky turned orange…

Madhuri sat under the banyan tree, just like always.

But this time—

She didn't return home.

The villagers found her the next morning.

Peaceful.

Still.

Gone.

In her hand…

Was the army badge.

Ending

Years passed.

The village changed.

But people still say—

On quiet evenings, when the wind moves through the fields…

You can feel a presence near the banyan tree.

As if two souls finally met again—

Where promises were once made.

Last Line

"Some love stories are not meant to live in this world…

they are meant to live beyond it."
