Chapter 4 - The Hospital Truth

Amelia's POV

The next morning came too fast.

 I barely slept.

Every time I closed my eyes, the same thought returned again and again.

The early sunlight filtered through the curtains in Mia's guest room casting a pale glow across the walls. I stared at the ceiling for a long moment before slowly sitting up.

My chest felt heavy.

Everything about yesterday felt unreal, like a nightmare I had not woken up from yet.

My husband divorcing me.

Walking away with a different woman that's not me.

And now… the possibility that I might be carrying his child.

A soft knock came from the door before it opened.

Mia peeked inside.

"You are awake."

 I nodded weakly.

"Did you sleep at all?"

 "Not really."

She sighed sympathetically and stepped into the room.

"That's understandable," she said. "But today we are getting answers."

"Hey… look at me she said you are not going to let this destroy you."

I blinked at her.

 "What do you mean?"

I mean Daniel may have walked away, but your life is not over yet.

Even if the result is positive. In fact this might be the beginning of something better.

I gave a weak laugh.

"Better?"

"Of course,"Mia said confidently .

Look Amelia, you are beautiful, intelligent, kind, loyal and strong.

Any man would be so lucky to have you.

I shook my head slightly. "I don't think I'm ready for another relationship right now."

"I'm not saying you should dive into dating tomorrow Mia replied,"

I'm saying your life doesn't revolve around Daniel anymore; her words lingered in my mind.

For so long my entire world had been built around my husband.

Now that world was gone I swung my legs off the bed and stood up slowly.

"Let's just get this over," I murmured.

The hospital was already busy when we arrived.

Doctors and nurses moved quickly through the hallways while patients waited quietly in rows of chairs.

The smell of antiseptic filled the room.

I wrapped my arms around myself as we approached the reception desk.

My heart was beating so loudly it felt like everyone around me could hear it.

Mia gently touched my shoulder.

"Relax," she whispered. "You look like you are about to faint.

"I might," I replied nervously.

After checking in, we were directed to the obstetrics department.

The waiting area felt unbearably quiet.

Every second that passed made my anxiety worse.

My foot tapped restlessly against the floor.

"What if the test is positive?" I suddenly asked.

Mia turned toward me.

"Then we will deal with it together."

Her calmness was comforting, but the fear inside of me did not disappear.

 I lowered my voice.

" I just got divorced yesterday… and now this?"

And another woman is carrying Daniel's child.

Mia frowned.

"That man does not deserve to be part of your thoughts right now."

But it was not that simple.

 If the test was positive…

Daniel would always be part of my life somehow

A nurse suddenly appeared at the doorway.

"Amelia Hart?"

 My heart skipped.

"That is me," I said standing quickly.

Mia squeezed my hand before I followed the nurse down the hallway.

The examination room felt cold and sterile.

I sat on the small chair as the nurse handed me a pregnancy test kit.

"You can use the restroom there," she said gently.

My fingers trembled as I took it.

This was it.

The moment that would determine everything.

A few minutes later, I returned to the room holding the test strip.

My heart pounded loudly in my chest.

"The nurse noticed my trembling hands," She smiled and said it was just a test.

The nurse took it from my hand.

"We will check the result shortly," she said.

"Please wait here."

Those few minutes felt like days.

I stared at the floor, barely breathing.

Mia sat beside me silently, sensing that I needed that quiet.

Finally, the nurse came back.

she held a small paper in her hand.

Her expression was neutral but my heart still raced.

"Miss Amelia," she began calmly.

 "The rest is positive."

My entire body went still.

 Positive.

The word echoed in my mind.

"I guess this child is a miracle she added."

 I was pregnant.

My hand slowly moved to my stomach without thinking.

There was really a child there.

Daniel's child.

 Tears blurred my vision.

 Not just from sadness…

 But from shock.

From fear.

From the overwhelming realization that my life had just changed forever.

Mia immediately wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"Hey… it's okay," she whispered softly.

But before I could process the news—

The door suddenly opened.

 Footsteps entered the room.

"Doctor, the patient from room three—"

 The voice stopped mid sentence.

I looked up.

And my entire body froze.

Standing in the doorway…

 It was Daniel.

His eyes widened the moment he saw me sitting there.

Then his gaze slowly dropped to the paper in the nurse's hand.

And the pregnancy test result.

For the first time since yesterday….

Daniel Carter looked completely shocked.
