Chapter 1 - "Die to Travel!"

-----

-----

"Hey, Old Jack! Want a wife or not?!"

That was the very first sentence Jack Miller heard after transmigrating—and it stuck with him.

He'd actually thought that crossing over would come with a free wife.

Turns out, as an outsider, he got a brutal reality check from the locals instead.

Free wife? Yeah, right. The only thing waiting for him was a lawless man whose chest hair was longer than Jack Miller's head hair.

Less than an hour after arriving—

Jack Miller, still in Shelter 92, got his skull cracked open along with all the other residents when a group of raiders suddenly stormed in.

In his final moments, drifting in and out of consciousness…

He vaguely felt himself being tossed onto a small cart by those raiders.

Then hauled up to the scorching surface.

Right before he died, the last thing Jack Miller saw was a wastelander's rusty mechanical left eye.

And heard him mutter, "Boss says we can't eat 'em… what a waste…"

Then, along with the other corpses piled on the cart, Jack Miller was dumped straight off a cliff hundreds of meters high.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bodies dropped like dumplings, free-falling—

Only to smash into the solid road below, bursting into mangled heaps of flesh.

From transmigration… to death…

It took exactly 56 minutes and 21 seconds.

Jack Miller didn't even know how to rate his luck anymore.

And yet—

Even as he'd been reduced to a smear—

Lines of flickering text suddenly appeared "before his eyes."

[Main World Bound: Fallout Wasteland]

[Cause of Death: Thrown off a cliff by humans]

[Death Reward: Constitution +1]

[Death Confirmed. Initiating Transmigration…]

Well damn.

His cheat ability had finally arrived.

And the trigger condition… was dying?!

As those lines of text appeared, Jack Miller's consciousness slowly sharpened.

He recognized that flickering interface.

Back on Earth, in his previous life, when he got hit by a dump truck while out buying medicine—

He'd seen something just like this.

Which meant…

His ability to transmigrate had already existed back on Earth!

While he was thinking this over, sensation gradually returned to his body.

His vision was still pitch black.

But his sense of smell, touch, and hearing had come back.

He could feel solid ground under his feet.

Voices buzzed around him—crowds talking, cars passing by.

That familiar ambient noise told Jack Miller one thing:

He'd successfully transmigrated again.

And this time, it felt a lot like Earth.

A few seconds later, the text appeared again.

[Transmigration Successful]

[Current World: Shin Godzilla]

[Return to Main World upon Death]

Jack Miller's vision finally cleared.

He looked around.

Low-rise buildings. A river nearby.

Crowds moving back and forth—lively, bustling.

"No way… I actually ended up in Godzilla's world?"

Glancing at the Japanese signs on nearby buildings, Jack Miller couldn't hide his amazement.

And excitement.

This cheat of his was way more useful than he'd imagined.

It could even send him into fictional movie worlds.

As for being afraid of facing Godzilla?

Come on.

Jack Miller felt fearless as hell.

The text had made it clear—death was the condition to return.

What did that mean?

It meant he was basically immortal.

If he couldn't die for real, what was there to be afraid of?

Jack Miller felt like he could really start messing around now.

Once he calmed down, though, he noticed something odd on his left wrist.

Looking down—

It was his shelter personal terminal.

Strange. He clearly remembered it being taken after his head got smashed in.

And now it had reappeared on his wrist out of nowhere.

BOOM!

Before he could think further—

A massive crashing sound erupted from the river's estuary in the distance!

It felt like an earthquake. Even from far away, Jack Miller could feel the ground trembling beneath his feet.

"ROOOAR—!!!"

A deafening roar from a colossal beast!

Hearing it, Jack Miller didn't feel fear at all.

Only excitement.

"That's a real, living Godzilla!"

Looking into the distance—

About five to six hundred meters away, a gigantic, reddish-brown monster was roaring as it swam straight toward him.

The water in its wake was stained blood-red.

Jack Miller had seen Shin Godzilla.

And now, the memories in his mind were crystal clear.

One glance at that creature—

And he knew exactly where in the plot he was.

In the movie, Shin Godzilla goes through four evolutionary stages.

Right now, this was its early second form—Kamata-kun.

Huge, vacant fish-like eyes.

Thick legs, a dorsal fin, and tiny, useless arms.

But because its body was so top-heavy, it could only crawl forward like a snake.

Even so—

At this stage, it was already 30 meters tall and 60 meters long.

Not its final form.

But more than enough to qualify as a proper monster.

Just forcing its way into the river channel was enough to push massive waves inland—

Causing destruction on the scale of a tsunami.

And that's exactly what happened.

The moment Godzilla entered the river—

The water surged backward!

Huge waves lifted every boat and vessel on the surface, tossing them high before driving them inland!

"AHHHHH!!!"

Screams filled the air.

Floodwaters surged.

The monster came ashore.

The citizens of Tokyo panicked and fled in all directions.

Everyone ran—

Except Jack Miller.

Instead of retreating, he stepped forward.

He dashed onto the nearby Asahi Bridge spanning the river, threw his head back, and laughed wildly as he faced the incoming waves.

"Let the storm come harder!"

He raised both arms and shouted at the top of his lungs.

BOOM!

The next second—

Godzilla, pushing a wall of water and a mass of boats, slammed straight into the bridge where Jack Miller stood!

First, he felt the river water hitting his face like a spray of gravel.

Then—

A boat weighing over ten tons crashed down on him!

The instant it made contact—

Jack Miller was crushed flat.

His fragile human body stood no chance against Godzilla.

With death as his goal—

He died clean and fast.

Darkness swallowed his vision once more.

And within that darkness, the flickering text appeared again.

[Death Confirmed]

[Cause of Death: Crushed by fishing boat propelled by Shin Godzilla]

[Death Reward: Fishing Boat Enhancement ×1]

[Returning…]

Just like the first time—

Sensation slowly returned to his body.

The darkness faded.

When Jack Miller could see again—

He knew.

He was back.

Back in the wasteland—his bound main world.

Squish…

Jack Miller pushed himself up, trying to sit.

His hand sank into something wet and sticky.

He lifted it—

Dark, clotted blood.

He quickly got to his feet.

Around him lay several corpses of shelter residents—

The same ones thrown off the cliff with him.

Their bodies were completely mangled.

Only their sturdy blue shelter uniforms barely held their shattered remains together, preserving a vague human shape.

As for their heads…

Forget it.

There was no finding them.

You could imagine—

When Jack Miller hit the ground, he probably looked no better than they did.

But now?

Aside from dirty clothes—

His body was completely unharmed.

Not only alive and kicking—

He even felt stronger, thanks to that +1 Constitution.

He ran his hands over himself, checking.

Perfectly intact.

A grin spread across his face.

"I really got an immortal body?!"

"Dying gives rewards, and lets me travel to other worlds…"

"Then I die again, get another reward, and come back alive!"

"This is straight-up broken!"

The more he thought about it, the more excited he got.

He looked around.

A desolate road. Nothing else in sight.

After walking a bit, he found a rusty piece of metal on the ground.

"Let's test it."

He stared at the metal shard in his hand, sharpened it a bit against a roadside guardrail—

Closed his eyes—

And drove it hard into his own throat!

Pshhk!

Death came again…

"....."
