Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The First Move

Night had fallen over the Valen estate.

The mansion stood quietly beneath a dark sky, its tall windows glowing with warm golden light. From the outside, it looked peaceful like the home of a wealthy and respectable family.

But Aria Valen knew the truth.

This house had once been the beginning of her destruction.

Now it would become the beginning of her revenge.

Inside her bedroom, the lights were dim except for the soft glow of a desk lamp. Papers covered the surface of the large wooden desk—financial reports, company structures, market analysis, and strategic projections.

At the center of it all lay the tablet Lucien Virell had given her.

The struggling technology firm glowed on the screen.

Aria leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes briefly.

Three days.

That was the time she had promised him.

But the truth was she had already begun solving the problem the moment she saw the data.

Because she had seen situations like this before.

During her marriage in her previous life, her husband had often attended brutal corporate negotiations where companies were destroyed overnight.

She had watched.

Listened.

Learned.

Sometimes survival meant understanding the same ruthless systems that powerful men used against each other.

Now that knowledge had become her weapon.

Aria opened her eyes again and scanned the company profile once more.

The failing firm, Orion Tech Systems, wasn't collapsing because of poor technology.

Its core product was actually strong.

The problem was leadership.

The CEO had lost investor confidence after a series of poorly timed expansions. Meanwhile, a rival company had begun aggressively undercutting their market share.

Most analysts were recommending the same solution.

Cost cutting.

Staff reduction.

Emergency funding.

But those strategies only slowed collapse.

They didn't win wars.

Aria tapped the tablet thoughtfully.

Then she opened a new document.

Her fingers began moving quickly across the keyboard.

If Lucien wanted a strategy…

She would give him one he wouldn't forget.

Downstairs in the dining room, the Valen family gathered for dinner.

Celeste sat elegantly at the table while Bianca scrolled through her phone with casual interest.

Adrian Valen entered the room moments later, removing his suit jacket as he sat at the head of the table.

"Where's Aria?" he asked.

Celeste glanced toward the staircase.

"She said she had work to finish."

Bianca laughed softly.

"Work?"

Her tone held light amusement.

"She's been studying like a corporate trainee lately."

Adrian didn't smile.

His instincts had been unsettled since the day Aria joined the academy.

The change in her behavior was too sudden.

Too calculated.

"What exactly is she studying?" he asked.

Celeste stirred her tea gently.

"Business strategy."

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

"That quickly?"

Bianca shrugged.

"Maybe she just wants to impress you."

Adrian didn't respond.

Because something about that explanation felt wrong.

Aria had always been quiet.

Gentle.

Never confrontational.

Now she spoke with a confidence that hadn't existed before.

And that kind of change didn't happen without a reason.

Upstairs, Aria remained completely focused on the glowing screen in front of her.

Two hours had passed.

Her strategy was nearly complete.

The plan she was constructing was not a recovery.

It was a takeover disguised as one.

First step: force the current Orion Tech leadership to collapse under shareholder pressure.

Second step: quietly acquire controlling shares during the panic.

Third step: merge Orion's strongest assets into a new market division while eliminating the rival company that had been attacking them.

A brutal solution.

But effective.

She leaned back slightly and reread the document.

Precise.

Efficient.

And merciless.

Lucien had asked how she would save the company.

But what she was actually proposing was something different.

Total control.

Aria closed the document and transferred it to the tablet.

Then she glanced at the clock.

11:47 PM.

She had promised him three days.

Instead she had finished in one.

A small smile appeared on her lips.

Let him think about that.

The next morning, the sky above the academy was bright and clear.

Students filled the hallways again, discussing classes and new opportunities.

Aria walked through the building calmly.

Her bag rested lightly on her shoulder.

Inside it sat the tablet containing her strategy.

When she reached the third floor again, the hallway was quiet.

Just like the day before.

The door to the observation lounge stood closed this time.

Aria knocked once.

"Come in."

Lucien Virell stood near the window again when she entered.

Morning light poured across the room, outlining his tall figure against the glass.

He turned when he saw her.

"Miss Valen."

Aria walked inside.

"You said three days," he said calmly.

"It's been one."

She placed the tablet on the table.

"I finished early."

Lucien studied her for a moment.

Then he picked up the device and opened the file.

The room fell silent as he read.

Minutes passed.

Aria watched him carefully.

Most people would show their reactions quickly.

Surprise.

Disbelief.

Confusion.

Lucien showed none of those things.

His expression remained completely composed.

But his eyes moved across the screen with increasing focus.

Finally, he looked up.

"You're not saving the company."

"No."

"You're dismantling it."

"I'm rebuilding it."

He studied her again.

"By destroying its current leadership."

"They're already destroying it themselves."

Lucien leaned back slightly.

"And the hostile competitor?"

"They'll lose their advantage once Orion restructures its core product division."

His eyes narrowed faintly.

"You're turning a collapse into a market trap."

"Yes."

Silence filled the room.

Lucien set the tablet down slowly.

"Most executives would hesitate to propose something like this."

Aria crossed her arms lightly.

"Most executives are afraid of risk."

"And you aren't?"

"No."

Lucien watched her carefully.

Then he asked the question that had been forming since yesterday.

"Where did you learn to think like this?"

Aria met his gaze.

"Observation."

He held her eyes for several seconds.

Then he laughed softly.

"Either you're the most naturally gifted strategist I've ever met…"

He paused.

"…or you've lived through something very interesting."

Aria didn't respond.

Which only made his curiosity deepen.

Lucien picked up the tablet again.

"This plan would work," he said quietly.

"Yes."

"And if I use it?"

Aria tilted her head slightly.

"That depends."

"On what?"

"Whether you're willing to be ruthless enough to follow it completely."

Lucien's eyes darkened slightly.

"You're giving advice to the man who built Viren Global Holdings."

Aria smiled faintly.

"Yes."

For a moment, the room felt charged with quiet tension again.

Then Lucien stood.

He walked slowly around the table until he stood directly in front of her.

"Congratulations, Miss Valen."

"For what?"

"You just passed my test."

Aria raised an eyebrow.

"So what happens now?"

Lucien slipped his hands into his pockets.

"Now," he said calmly,

"We start working together."

The words settled into the room like the beginning of something far more dangerous than either of them had expected.

Because this alliance

Between a reborn heiress seeking revenge…

And the most powerful strategist in the corporate world

Would soon change everything.
