Chapter 10 - the shift

The Academy bell rang again, signaling the next class, but the courtyard still buzzed quietly among small clusters of students. The five girls lingered near the edge, their attention more on Aiden than on anything else.

"…He just sits there like nothing matters," Lyra muttered, crossing her arms. "And everyone else—laughing at him, talking about him—he doesn't even react."

Seris's gaze was sharp, almost analytical. "That's not indifference. That's control. And not just ordinary control. Something deeper."

Mira leaned forward slightly, whispering. "…And the way the teacher looked at him during class… It wasn't just noticing him. It was… focused. Calculated. Like she already knows what he's capable of."

Nyx's dark eyes narrowed. "…Which is scary. If she's intrigued by him, it means he's already surpassed everyone here—even if they can't see it."

Elara, always the observant one, folded her hands and spoke finally. "…She's not impressed in the way students expect. She's intrigued because she recognizes the same… essence. The same type of strength. Even if it's suppressed, even if it's hidden, she senses it."

Lyra smirked. "…So, in other words, all of us—including the noble boy Kael—are just children playing around. And the teacher? She's already aware of the real game."

Seris's lips pressed into a thin line. "…Exactly. And if she can sense it, we have to assume she's been watching him from the beginning. That means she's not only aware of his potential… she's tracking it, analyzing it, predicting it."

Mira tilted her head. "…Do you think she… likes him?"

Nyx snorted. "…Don't confuse intrigue with liking. This is the teacher. She doesn't like anyone. She assesses. She measures. And right now, she's measuring him. Carefully."

Elara's eyes drifted back toward the classroom, where shadows moved behind the tall windows. "…But even if she doesn't like him… this changes everything. He's no longer invisible. He's no longer safe to hide."

Lyra crossed her arms and grinned faintly. "…Maybe he doesn't need to hide anymore. He's got the teacher's attention. That's enough to shake this whole academy."

Seris added softly, "…The question is… does he even realize it? That the only person here capable of truly challenging—or understanding—him is already aware?"

Mira's gaze softened slightly, still watching Aiden. "…And she's probably the only one who could ever be his equal. That's… insane to even consider."

Nyx's expression hardened. "…Equally insane is how the other students will react when they realize. The noble boy, Kael, he'll break first. And he'll probably drag a lot of others with him."

Elara said nothing for a long moment, letting the others chatter. Then, finally, she spoke, her tone quiet but sharp. "…We should keep watching. Not just him—but her too. The teacher knows more than any of us can comprehend. And if she's paying attention… that means everything he does now will ripple through her. And through this entire academy."

The five girls exchanged silent looks, a mix of curiosity, wariness, and unspoken excitement.

"…This," Lyra muttered finally, "…is going to get very interesting very quickly."

And somewhere in the shadowed halls, the silver-haired teacher continued to watch, her thoughts circling around him, her heartbeat just slightly faster than normal—an unfamiliar excitement she had never before allowed herself.

Because for the first time in years… she had found someone who made her feel alive again.

Someone she didn't want to simply measure or control.

Someone she wanted to see surpass her.

Even if just a little.

Even if unknowingly.

And somewhere deep down, she already knew… Aiden's presence was going to change everything.

The five girls could feel it too.

And they would not be the only ones
