Caleb's POV
I find myself staring out the window again, watching Mason charm Riley on her front porch. The longer I observe, the more I feel like some creepy stalker. When I see him finally hop down from her steps and head toward my place, dread settles in my stomach. Riley already managed to get under my skin today, and I'm not sure I can handle Mason pushing my buttons too.
I still don't understand why her rejection hit me so hard. She said no, and I should have respected that. But I couldn't stop myself. We haven't spoken in ages, yet I somehow expected her to be thrilled about getting in a car with me. Given our history, maybe I shouldn't be shocked by her response.
