Riley's POV
Zoey and I wander through the party supply store, hunting for last minute items for Jace's birthday celebration tomorrow. The aisles are packed with colorful decorations and noise makers that will definitely annoy the adults later.
"So Riley, what's the real deal?" Zoey stops abruptly in the middle of the streamer section. I glance around, confused by her sudden question.
"What are you talking about?" I ask, genuinely lost.
She rolls her eyes dramatically. "You and Caleb. Why haven't you two sealed the deal yet?"
My mouth drops open as her meaning hits me. Heat rushes to my cheeks and I quickly grab a plastic horn from the shelf, needing something to do with my hands.
"It's complicated," I mumble, checking to make sure Mason is still browsing across the store. "There are actually several reasons."
Zoey crosses her arms and raises an eyebrow, clearly not accepting that non-answer.
