Chapter 11 - THE BIRTH OF SITA

King Janaka of Mithila had no children. One day, he was ploughing the field during a sacred ritual.

While ploughing, he found a baby girl inside the earth (furrow).

The king was amazed and believed she was a divine gift from Mother Earth

He adopted the child and named her Sita

The name Sita comes from the Sanskrit word "Seeta", meaning:

Furrow (the line made by a plough in the soil)
