Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: System Awakening

The bunker was quiet again.

Too quiet.

Three bodies lay on the ground.

Smoke still hung in the air.

The smell of gunpowder… fresh.

Aarav stood still.

Gun in hand.

Eyes locked on nothing.

"I killed someone…"

He whispered it.

Not in fear.

Not in regret.

Just… realization.

Zoya watched him carefully.

"This is where people break," she said.

Aarav didn't respond.

His grip tightened.

"…or change."

Silence.

Then—

The screen behind them flickered violently.

GLITCH.

Aarav turned.

"What now?"

The lights dimmed slightly.

The system display changed.

Not normal text anymore.

Something else.

Something… different.

A new message appeared.

SYSTEM OVERRIDE DETECTEDUNAUTHORIZED EVOLUTION TRIGGERED

Zoya frowned.

"That's not normal…"

Aarav stepped closer.

"…what does that mean?"

Before she could answer—

The screen flashed red.

SUBJECT: AARAV VERMASTATUS: ANOMALY CONFIRMED

Aarav's heartbeat slowed.

Anomaly.

Again.

Then—

Everything froze.

The screens.

The lights.

Even the air felt… still.

And suddenly—

A voice.

Not from his earpiece.

Not from the room.

From everywhere.

"You have exceeded expected parameters."

Aarav's eyes widened.

"…who's there?"

Zoya stepped back slightly.

"That's not the Architect…"

The voice continued—

"Survival rate: abnormal.""Decision patterns: unpredictable."

A pause.

"Conclusion…"

Silence.

Then—

"System access granted."

Aarav froze.

"…what?"

Suddenly—

A sharp pain hit his head.

"AHH—!"

He dropped to one knee.

Zoya rushed forward.

"Aarav!"

But he couldn't hear her properly.

Because something else—

Was happening.

Inside his mind.

A screen appeared.

Not in front of him.

Inside him.

Clear.

Bright.

Real.

[ SYSTEM INTERFACE ACTIVATED ]

Aarav's breathing slowed.

"…this is…"

New text appeared.

Name: Aarav VermaStatus: Active TargetRank: Tier-1 AnomalyLevel: 1

Aarav blinked.

"…level?"

More data loaded.

Strength: 5Speed: 5Intelligence: 8Survival Instinct: 10

Aarav stared.

"…what is this… a game?"

The voice responded—

"Not a game.""An optimization system."

Zoya watched him carefully.

"What's happening?" she asked.

Aarav didn't answer immediately.

Because more options appeared.

SKILLS UNLOCKED:• Threat Perception (Lv.1)• Reflex Boost (Lv.1)

Aarav's eyes widened.

"This is insane…"

The voice continued—

"Your role has changed."

A pause.

"You are no longer a replaceable asset."

Aarav's heartbeat slowed.

"…then what am I?"

Silence.

Then—

"You are a variable."

Aarav smirked slightly.

"Sounds dangerous."

"Correct."

Zoya stepped closer.

"Aarav… talk to me."

He finally looked at her.

His eyes—

Different now.

Sharper.

Focused.

"I think…" he said slowly,

"…I just got an upgrade."

Zoya frowned.

"That's not possible."

Aarav smiled faintly.

"Yeah…"

A pause.

"…that's what makes it interesting."

The system flashed again.

NEW OBJECTIVE GENERATED:Survive 24 HoursReward: Level Up + New AbilityFailure: Death

Aarav chuckled softly.

"Of course…"

Zoya crossed her arms.

"You're enjoying this?"

Aarav looked at her.

Not scared anymore.

Not confused.

Something else.

Excited.

"Not enjoying…"

A pause.

"Understanding."

Zoya stared at him.

"You've changed."

Aarav nodded slightly.

"Yeah."

He picked up his gun again.

But this time—

His hands didn't shake.

Not even a little.

"Good," he said quietly.

Zoya raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

Aarav looked toward the bunker door.

Where more danger was definitely coming.

And said—

"Because now…"

A slight smile appeared.

"I'm ready to play properly."

The system glowed faintly in his vision.

Alive.

Watching.

Evolving.

And for the first time—

Aarav wasn't just part of the game.

He was becoming something more.

Something unpredictable.

Something…

They couldn't control.
