Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: First Upgrade

The bunker lights flickered.

Again.

Aarav stood still.

Eyes focused.

Breathing calm.

But inside—

Everything had changed.

[ Threat Perception: ACTIVE ]

The world around him felt… different.

Sharper.

Every sound—

Clear.

Every movement—

Noticeable.

Even the air felt like it carried information.

Zoya watched him closely.

"You're not the same," she said quietly.

Aarav smirked faintly.

"Good."

Before she could respond—

BEEP! BEEP!

The system alert blared again.

ELIMINATION SQUAD: INCOMING (5 HOSTILES)

Zoya's expression hardened.

"They're sending more."

Aarav tilted his head slightly.

"Yeah…"

A pause.

"I can feel them."

Zoya frowned.

"…feel?"

Aarav closed his eyes for a second.

And suddenly—

He saw it.

Not with his eyes.

But in his mind.

Five red outlines.

Moving.

Positioning.

Surrounding the bunker.

He opened his eyes.

"They're splitting," he said calmly.

Zoya froze.

"How do you know that?"

Aarav smiled slightly.

"Instinct."

Not entirely a lie.

The first sound came from above.

Footsteps.

Then—

From the side.

Another team.

Zoya grabbed her weapon.

"Positions."

But Aarav didn't move.

Instead—

He stepped forward.

Into the open.

Zoya's eyes widened.

"What are you doing?!"

Aarav didn't look back.

"Testing something."

CRASH!

The ceiling vent exploded open.

Two attackers dropped down.

Guns raised.

"Target spotted—!"

Before they could finish—

Aarav moved.

Fast.

Faster than before.

[ Reflex Boost: ACTIVATED ]

Time didn't slow—

But Aarav did.

Everything felt slower.

Clearer.

Predictable.

He stepped sideways.

A bullet passed where his head had been.

Perfect dodge.

Zoya froze for a second.

"…what the hell?"

Aarav grabbed the first attacker's arm.

Twisted—

CRACK!

The gun fell.

He didn't hesitate.

Picked it up.

Turned—

BANG!

Second attacker dropped instantly.

Zoya blinked.

"That was…"

Aarav didn't answer.

Because more were coming.

From the door.

Three more.

He could feel them.

Before they even entered.

"Three more," he said calmly.

Zoya looked at him.

Now she understood.

Something had changed.

Deeply.

The door burst open.

Three attackers rushed in.

But this time—

Aarav didn't hide.

Didn't wait.

He attacked first.

Fast.

Precise.

He moved between them.

Not like a beginner.

Like someone reading the fight.

Predicting it.

Dodging before attacks came.

Striking before openings appeared.

BANG!

One down.

BANG!

Second down.

The third hesitated.

Just for a second.

That was enough.

Aarav stepped forward.

Gun aimed.

Locked.

The attacker raised his weapon—

Too slow.

BANG!

Silence.

All five—

Down.

Gone.

The bunker was quiet again.

Zoya stared at him.

Not shocked.

Not confused.

Something else.

"…you've changed too fast," she said.

Aarav exhaled slowly.

His heartbeat steady.

His hands—

Perfectly still.

"I told you," he said.

A slight smile forming.

"I learn fast."

The system flickered again.

EXPERIENCE GAINEDLEVEL UP AVAILABLE

Aarav's eyes lit up slightly.

"…now this is interesting."

Zoya stepped closer.

"You're enjoying this way too much."

Aarav looked at her.

Not cold.

Not cruel.

But something new.

Focused.

Driven.

"Because now I understand something," he said.

Zoya raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

Aarav looked at the bodies.

Then at his hands.

Then back at her.

"They're not hunting me anymore."

A pause.

His smile widened slightly.

"I'm hunting them."

Zoya stared at him.

And for the first time—

She wasn't sure—

If he was still human…

Or becoming something else.
