Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Proof of Madness

Aarav couldn't breathe properly.

The memory was there.

Clear.

Sharp.

Undeniable.

The forest.The silence.The girl.

And yet—

Her name…

Didn't exist.

"…This isn't possible," he whispered.

The girl stood in front of him, watching quietly.

Like she had seen this reaction before.

Many times.

"You remember now," she said softly.

Aarav looked up at her, eyes filled with confusion.

"I do. I do remember. We met here. Last night."

He paused.

His voice dropped.

"…You told me I would forget you."

She nodded.

"And I did," he said, his voice tightening. "I forgot everything. Until just now."

Silence.

The truth settled heavily between them.

"…Why?" Aarav asked.

The girl hesitated.

For the first time—

She looked unsure.

"I don't fully understand it myself," she admitted."But every time someone meets me…"

A pause.

"They forget."

Aarav clenched his fists.

"No. That's not enough. There has to be a reason. Something causing it."

Her eyes softened slightly.

"You're thinking logically."

"Of course I am," he snapped. "Because this doesn't make any sense."

Another pause.

Then she said something that made his blood run cold.

"The world removes me."

Aarav froze.

"…What?"

"It corrects itself," she continued quietly."Like I'm a mistake that shouldn't exist."

A faint wind passed through the trees.

"And memories of me…" she added,"…are the first thing it erases."

Aarav shook his head slowly.

"No. No, that's insane."

"…I know."

But she didn't sound like she was joking.

✍️ The Experiment

"Wait here," Aarav said suddenly.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pen.

Then took out a small notebook from his bag.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Proving this," he said.

He flipped open the notebook.

Hands slightly shaking.

"If I write everything down," he muttered,"then even if I forget… it'll still be here."

The girl's expression changed.

For a brief moment—

Something like hope appeared.

"…No one's tried that before," she whispered.

Aarav smirked slightly.

"Then I guess I'm the first."

He began writing quickly.

I met a girl in the forest. She says the world erases her.I forgot her once already. Her name is—

His pen stopped.

Aarav frowned.

"…What's your name?" he asked.

The girl hesitated.

Then she answered.

And the moment she did—

The sound disappeared.

Not faded.

Not muffled.

Gone.

Like the world refused to let it exist.

Aarav's eyes widened.

"…I didn't hear anything."

"I know," she said quietly.

A chill ran down his spine.

"Okay… okay, fine," he muttered."I'll just write what I can."

He continued.

I can't hear her name. But she is real. She is standing in front of me right now.

He underlined the last sentence.

Hard.

"There," he said. "Proof."

The girl stepped closer.

Looking down at the page.

For a moment—

Neither of them spoke.

Then—

The ink began to fade.

Aarav blinked.

"…What?"

The words blurred.

Slowly.

Like they were being erased by an invisible hand.

"No—no, no, no—" Aarav flipped the page.

Blank.

He turned back.

Blank.

Every word—

Gone.

The notebook slipped from his hand.

"…That's not possible," he whispered.

His breathing became uneven.

"I just wrote that. I just—"

"You see now," the girl said softly.

Aarav looked at her.

Really looked at her.

At the way her presence felt…

Unstable.

Like she didn't fully belong here.

🩸 The Second Attempt

"No," Aarav said suddenly.

His voice hardened.

"I'm not accepting this."

He picked up the notebook again.

"If writing doesn't work…"

He looked down at his hand.

At the mark.

Three lines.

"…then I'll use something the world can't erase easily."

Before she could stop him—

Aarav grabbed the pen—

And pressed it hard against his skin.

Drawing over the mark.

Deep.

"Aarav, wait—!"

Too late.

He carved the lines deeper.

Pain shot through his hand—

But he didn't stop.

"I won't forget," he said through clenched teeth."I refuse to."

The girl stared at him.

Shocked.

"…You're different," she whispered.

Aarav let out a shaky breath.

"Yeah," he said.

Then looked at her.

"So tell me everything."

A pause.

The wind shifted.

And for the first time—

Something in the forest felt…

Aware.

Watching.

👁️ The Presence

The girl's expression changed instantly.

From surprise—

To fear.

"…It noticed," she said.

Aarav frowned. "What noticed?"

She stepped back suddenly.

Eyes scanning the darkness.

"We don't have much time."

The air grew heavier.

Darker.

And somewhere—

Deep in the forest—

Something moved.
