Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Cost of Power

They didn't stop running.

Not until the world changed.

Aarav felt it first.

The pressure in the air—

Gone.

The silence—

Gone.

The cracks—

Gone.

Like they had crossed an invisible line.

"…We're safe?" Aarav asked between breaths.

"No," the man replied calmly.

Aarav frowned. "Then why did they stop?"

The man didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked around.

Carefully.

Precisely.

Then he said—

"Because they can't enter here."

🧩 The Safe Zone

Aarav finally looked up properly.

And froze.

"…Where are we?"

They were no longer on the street.

No buildings.

No people.

Just an empty space.

A wide, abandoned structure.

Walls cracked with age.

Windows broken.

And yet—

It didn't feel ruined.

It felt…

Untouched.

Like time had skipped over this place entirely.

The girl stepped forward slowly.

"…You brought us here," she said.

The man nodded once.

"It's outside their correction field."

Aarav blinked.

"…Their what?"

⚠️ The System Explained

The man turned to him.

For the first time—

He actually looked serious.

"The world you know isn't stable," he said.

"It runs on rules."

Aarav let out a dry laugh.

"Yeah, I figured that part out."

"Then listen carefully," the man continued.

"When something exists that shouldn't…"

A pause.

"The system corrects it."

Aarav's chest tightened.

"…Like her."

The man nodded.

"And now…"

He looked directly at Aarav.

"…like you."

Silence.

Heavy.

🧠 Realization

Aarav shook his head slowly.

"…No. I'm normal."

"Not anymore," the man said.

Aarav clenched his fists.

"…Because I remember her?"

"Because you resisted."

A pause.

"Because you changed the outcome."

🩸 The Price

A faint sound interrupted them.

A small drop hitting the floor.

Aarav turned.

And froze.

"…You're bleeding."

The girl stood a few steps away.

Her arm—

Still dripping with blood.

The wound hadn't healed.

Aarav stepped closer immediately.

"Why isn't it healing? You used that power before—"

She flinched slightly.

"…I can't," she said quietly.

"What do you mean you can't?"

She looked at her hand.

At the blood.

Then said something that made Aarav's chest tighten.

"Every time I use my power…"

A pause.

"I lose more of myself."

Silence.

💔 The Truth

Aarav's voice dropped.

"…What does that mean?"

She hesitated.

Then slowly—

"It means I become harder to remember."

Aarav's breath caught.

"…No."

She nodded.

"That's the cost."

A long silence followed.

Aarav looked down at his hand.

At the mark.

"…So every time you save me…"

His voice trembled slightly.

"I lose you."

She didn't answer.

Because she didn't need to.

👁️ The Hidden Fear

The man watched quietly.

Observing.

Analyzing.

"…You shouldn't get attached," he said suddenly.

Aarav snapped.

"…Shut up."

The man raised an eyebrow.

"She won't last," he said calmly.

Silence.

The words hit harder than anything else.

Aarav stepped forward.

Anger rising.

"What's your problem?!"

The man didn't react.

"I'm telling you the truth," he said.

"Everything the system targets…"

"Eventually disappears."

⚡ Aarav's Change

Aarav froze.

"…Everything?"

The man nodded.

A pause.

Then Aarav asked—

Something different.

"…What happens to the ones who resist?"

For the first time—

The man's expression shifted.

Slightly.

"…They don't disappear."

Aarav's eyes narrowed.

"…Then what?"

A long silence.

Then the answer came—

"They become something else."

A chill ran through the room.

🧩 Final Hint

Aarav looked at his hand again.

The mark.

Faintly glowing.

"…Like me?" he asked quietly.

The man didn't answer directly.

But his silence—

Said enough.
