Chapter 5 - chapter 5

The first sound wasn't loud.

It was a whisper.

A shift in the air.

Then—

gunfire.

Sienna didn't have time to react.

The shot cracked through the quiet like a split in reality.

Glass shattered somewhere to her left.

"MOVE!"

Her aunt's voice came instantly—sharp, urgent.

Sienna dropped low.

Too fast to think.

Another shot.

Closer.

This wasn't training.

This was real.

Her heart pounded violently in her chest.

"What's happening?" Sienna breathed.

Her aunt didn't answer.

Not immediately.

She was already moving.

Already calculating.

Already in control.

But even she knew—

this was not random.

This was planned.

From the distance—

figures began to appear.

Not rushing.

Not panicking.

Moving with purpose.

Too coordinated.

Too clean.

Sienna's breath hitched.

Backup fighters.

Too many.

"Stay behind me," her aunt said again.

But her voice had changed.

Not softer.

Heavier.

More serious than before.

Across the battlefield—

Daniel stood still.

Watching.

Not reacting.

Because this was not chaos.

It was execution.

He raised his hand slightly.

And his men moved instantly.

Backup units flanked from hidden positions.

No noise.

No hesitation.

Only movement.

On the other side—

Adrian stepped forward.

His expression calm.

Almost… relaxed.

But his eyes—

were sharp.

Focused.

Too focused.

Sienna noticed something.

The way they moved.

The way the attackers didn't hesitate.

The way everything felt… controlled.

Her stomach tightened.

Something was wrong.

Then—

it happened.

A gunshot.

Not from the front.

From the side.

Sienna turned—

just in time to see her aunt stagger.

The world slowed.

Sienna froze.

"No—"

Her voice barely escaped.

Her aunt didn't fall immediately.

She steadied herself.

Straightened.

Like she refused to give them that satisfaction.

Her eyes scanned the battlefield.

And for a brief moment—

she understood everything.

Not confusion.

Not panic.

Understanding.

Sienna ran toward her.

But her aunt raised a hand.

"Stop."

Sienna froze.

Her chest rising and falling rapidly.

"No… we fight— we can—"

Her aunt shook her head slightly.

"No."

Silence between them.

Heavy.

Real.

"This wasn't just an attack," her aunt said quietly.

Her voice was steady.

Calm.

Controlled.

"They wanted me out of the way."

Sienna's breathing hitched.

Her aunt's gaze shifted slightly.

To something… beyond Sienna.

"They got what they came for."

The battlefield began to slow.

Gunfire fading.

Movement changing.

Retreats beginning.

Not defeat.

Completion.

Sienna turned slowly.

And saw them.

Daniel.

Adrian.

Both watching.

Both still.

And in that moment—

Sienna understood.

This was never just war.

This was a decision.

Her aunt's breathing became shallower.

Sienna grabbed her hand.

"Stay with me— please—"

But her aunt's grip weakened.

Just slightly.

And in that final moment—

she looked at Sienna.

Not as a fighter.

Not as a student.

But as something more.

Something chosen.

"Don't trust them blindly…"

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"Not even the ones who look… closest."

Then—

she was gone.

The world didn't collapse.

It just… stopped.

Sienna stood there.

Silent.

Still.

And for the first time—

she wasn't naive.

She was aware.

And watching her from the distance—

was a plan.

Already in motion.
