Chapter 37 - Episode 18: “Aanya Becomes the Target”

The words still echoed in the dark lab.

"You are no longer the subject… You are the experiment."

Aanya's breathing became uneven.

"Rudra… what is happening to me?"

Rudra didn't answer immediately.

Because for the first time…

he didn't have control over the answer.

He looked at the system screen.

The "Heart Variable" was still active.

And it was changing in real time.

AANYA VERMA — IMPACT LEVEL: INCREASING

Aanya stepped back.

"Why is it increasing?! I'm not doing anything!"

Rudra's jaw tightened.

"It's not about what you do…"

A pause.

"…it's about what I feel."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unstable.

Aanya whispered,

"So I'm dangerous to you…"

Rudra instantly stepped forward.

"No."

A pause.

"You are dangerous to the system controlling me."

Suddenly—

the screens flickered violently.

A new alert appeared:

PROTOCOL UPDATE: ELIMINATION PATH SELECTED

Aanya froze.

"Elimination…?"

Rudra's eyes darkened instantly.

"No…"

A robotic voice spoke again.

Cold. Final.

"TO STABILIZE SUBJECT RUDRA RATHORE…"

"REMOVE HEART VARIABLE."

Aanya's voice broke.

"That means me…"

Rudra grabbed her hand instantly.

"Move."

Aanya panicked.

"Where?! Everything is locked!"

Rudra scanned the room fast.

Then saw it—

a narrow maintenance tunnel behind the chamber.

But before they could move—

the system reacted.

Metal barriers dropped.

One by one.

Blocking every exit.

Aanya shouted,

"We're trapped!"

Rudra looked around quickly.

Thinking faster than fear.

Then he whispered,

"No… we're being guided."

Aanya frowned.

"Guided?!"

Rudra pointed at the screen.

A new path appeared.

A glowing route.

Clear.

Direct.

Aanya stepped closer.

"That's an exit…"

Rudra shook his head.

"No."

A pause.

"It's a trap route."

Suddenly—

Armaan's voice returned.

Calm again.

Almost gentle.

"You always choose control, Rudra."

A pause.

"But I designed control."

Rudra whispered angrily,

"Stop manipulating her!"

Armaan replied softly,

"She is not a person in this system."

A pause.

"She is a variable."

Aanya's eyes filled.

"I'm not a variable…"

Rudra turned to her immediately.

"You are NOT."

He grabbed her wrist.

"Listen to me carefully."

A pause.

"We break the system or we disappear inside it."

Aanya nodded slowly.

"I trust you."

That hit Rudra harder than anything else.

Suddenly—

the system locked onto them.

A final message appeared:

TARGET CONFIRMED: HEART VARIABLE EXTRACTION INITIATED

The floor beneath Aanya lit up.

A scanning circle formed around her.

Aanya stepped back in fear.

"Rudra!"

Rudra moved instantly in front of her.

Blocking the scan.

And said coldly—

"Try it."

Armaan's voice softened.

"You will lose everything if you protect her."

Rudra didn't hesitate.

"Then I lose everything."

Silence.

The system paused.

For the first time.

Then—

the alarm intensified.

OVERRIDE FAILURE… HUMAN RESISTANCE DETECTED

Aanya whispered,

"It's fighting you…"

Rudra looked back at her.

Softly.

"We are leaving now."

He grabbed her hand.

And ran toward the tunnel.

Behind them—

the system screamed louder.

Not like a machine…

but like something learning pain.

And Armaan whispered one final line:

"You can protect her, Rudra…"

A pause.

"But you cannot protect her from me."
