Chapter 9 - Episode 9: The World That Came to Take Her Away

For a few hours… everything felt like it could be fixed.

Meera held Rani's hand in that hospital room like the world outside didn't exist.

Like pain had finally paused.

Like love had finally won something.

But the world doesn't allow peace to stay long.

Not in their story.

It began with footsteps.

Fast. Heavy. Angry.

The door opened sharply.

Meera froze.

Rani's grip tightened slightly.

Her father stood there.

Not alone.

Two relatives behind him.

And a look in his eyes that had already decided everything.

"So this is where you disappeared to," he said coldly.

Meera stood up immediately.

"Please… she just had an accident—"

But he raised his hand.

Not to hit.

To silence.

"I don't care what happened to her," he said firmly.

Then looked at Rani.

Like she was something unwanted in the room.

"You are coming home," he said to Meera.

Meera shook her head instantly.

"No."

That one word changed the temperature in the room.

Her father stepped closer.

"You will not destroy this family over a phase."

Rani tried to sit up slightly.

"Don't talk to her like that."

Her voice was weak—but sharp.

He turned to Rani.

And said something cruelly calm:

"You already did enough damage."

Meera snapped.

"That's enough."

Her voice shook—but didn't break.

Silence.

Everyone was watching now.

Even the machines felt louder.

Her father's voice lowered.

"If you don't come now… you are not my daughter anymore."

The sentence didn't shock her anymore.

Because she had heard it before.

But this time…

it didn't scare her.

It freed something inside her.

Meera turned slowly.

Looked at Rani.

Then at her father.

And said:

"I spent my whole life trying not to lose you…"

A pause.

"But I lost myself instead."

Rani closed her eyes.

Because she knew what was coming.

Meera continued:

"If choosing her means losing you… then I already know what I choose."

Gasps.

Silence.

Even anger stopped for a second.

Her father's face hardened.

"Then you are dead to this family."

Meera didn't cry.

Not immediately.

She just nodded slowly.

Like she had already accepted it long ago.

"Then I will live like I am alive," she whispered.

"Not like I am owned."

The room went still.

Her father turned away sharply.

And left.

Without another word.

The door closed.

But something inside Meera opened.

Forever.

Rani whispered weakly:

"You didn't have to do that…"

Meera sat back down beside her.

"I did."

A pause.

"Because I'm tired of choosing fear over you."

Rani's eyes filled.

"You lost everything…"

Meera shook her head softly.

"No."

She held Rani's hand tighter.

"I lost everything when I stopped choosing myself."

Silence.

But this one felt different.

Not empty.

Not painful.

Just real.

Outside the hospital window…

rain began again.

Rani whispered:

"What happens now?"

Meera looked at her.

Not scared anymore.

Not confused anymore.

Just honest.

"I don't know," she said.

A pause.

"But I know I don't want to do it without you."

Rani smiled faintly.

"Even if the world hates us?"

Meera nodded.

"Especially then."

Their hands stayed together.

Not as escape.

Not as fantasy.

But as decision.

And somewhere far away…

the world continued judging.

Continued rejecting.

Continued speaking.

But for the first time…

it didn't reach them the same way.

Because they had stopped waiting for acceptance.

And started choosing existence.

Together.
