Chapter 8 - The First Foundation

Night fell over the sect.

But no one slept.

Not after what had happened.

Kael sat alone in the former elder chamber.

Now—

His chamber.

The room was quiet, lit only by a single flickering lantern.

Before him—

The system interface glowed.

Kael leaned back slightly.

His fingers tapped against the armrest.

He could feel it.

The difference.

Not just strength—

Control.

Structure.

This was only the beginning.

A knock echoed at the door.

"Enter."

Dren stepped in, now cleaned and bandaged, though his posture remained tense.

"You called for me."

Kael studied him.

"Report."

Dren hesitated, then spoke.

"This branch has 43 outer disciples, 12 inner disciples, and 2 remaining elders."

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Names."

Dren listed them quickly.

Kael memorized each one.

Positions.

Strength.

Influence.

Pieces on a board.

"…The elders?" Kael asked.

"They haven't moved yet," Dren said. "But they will."

Of course they would.

Power shifts never went unnoticed.

Kael stood.

"Good."

Dren frowned slightly.

"That's… good?"

Kael walked past him.

"Yes."

Because that meant—

More targets.

More power.

---

Outside, the courtyard was filled with disciples.

Waiting.

Watching.

Uncertain.

Kael stepped forward.

The murmurs died instantly.

All eyes turned to him.

Good.

He raised his hand slightly.

Silence.

Complete.

"From this moment on," Kael said calmly, "this branch answers to me."

No one spoke.

No one objected.

Fear held them in place.

"But understand this."

His gaze swept across them.

"I don't tolerate weakness."

The words were quiet.

But absolute.

"If you want to survive here—"

A pause.

"Then become useful."

The pressure in the air intensified.

Not overwhelming.

But enough.

A reminder.

He turned.

"Training begins at dawn."

Then he walked away.

Leaving them in silence.

---

Behind him—

The foundation had been laid.

Ahead—

War was coming.

And Kael—

Welcomed it.
