Chapter 20 - Episode 20: The Line He Shouldn’t Cross

The safe house was no longer safe.

Broken walls. Burned edges. Smoke still lingering in the air like a warning that the night wasn't truly over.

Meera Verma stood close to Kabir Rajvansh, but something had changed between them.

Not distance.

Not fear.

Something heavier.

Realization.

Kabir's men were securing the area outside, but he didn't move from her side.

Not even for a second.

Like if he stepped away now… she might disappear.

Meera finally spoke softly,

"They knew I would be here…"

Kabir's jaw tightened.

"Yes."

A pause.

"And that means someone inside my circle betrayed us."

Her eyes widened slightly.

"So… it wasn't just an attack…"

Kabir's voice turned colder.

"It was a message."

Silence fell.

Meera looked at him carefully.

"About me?"

Kabir didn't deny it.

That was answer enough.

Outside, the wind moved through the broken forest.

But inside the house… everything felt still.

Too still.

Meera stepped slightly closer.

"You keep saying I'm in danger because of you…"

A pause.

"But what if the danger is you choosing me?"

That question hit harder than any bullet.

Kabir didn't answer immediately.

For the first time… he looked uncertain.

"You don't understand what you're asking," he said quietly.

Meera's voice trembled but didn't break.

"Then make me understand."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Kabir turned away slightly, running a hand through his hair.

For a man who controlled entire criminal empires… he suddenly looked human.

Tired.

Cornered.

"I was built to destroy threats," he said.

A pause.

"But you…"

His voice lowered.

"…you became the only thing I want to protect instead."

Meera's breath stopped.

Because that wasn't mafia logic.

That was emotion.

Raw. Dangerous. Uncontrolled.

She whispered,

"So I'm your weakness."

Kabir shook his head immediately.

"No."

A pause.

"Not weakness."

His eyes met hers again.

"Distraction… from everything I used to be."

Outside, a radio crackled again.

One of Kabir's men rushed in.

"Boss… we found something."

Kabir's expression changed instantly.

"What?"

The man hesitated.

"There's a second team… moving toward the city."

A pause.

"…and they're targeting someone connected to her past."

Meera froze.

"Me?"

Kabir's eyes darkened completely.

"No."

A pause.

"Your family."

Silence shattered.

Meera stepped back slightly.

"My parents…?"

Kabir nodded once.

"They want to make sure you have nothing left to return to."

Her throat tightened.

For the first time… fear wasn't just for herself.

It was for everything she still had.

Kabir stepped closer immediately.

His voice softened slightly.

"Look at me."

Meera didn't move.

"Meera."

This time firmer.

"Look at me."

She finally did.

"I will handle it," he said quietly.

A pause.

"But you need to understand something."

Meera's voice shook.

"What?"

Kabir's eyes were steady.

"This world doesn't just take what I protect…"

A pause.

"…it tries to punish me for protecting it."

Meera felt something shift inside her.

Everything was becoming clearer.

And darker.

"So what happens now?" she asked softly.

Kabir didn't hesitate this time.

"Now…" he said,

"…I stop reacting."

A pause.

"And I start ending it."

Meera stared at him.

"You mean war?"

Kabir nodded.

"Yes."

A pause.

"And this time… it won't stay hidden."

Outside, the night grew heavier again.

Somewhere far away… enemies were moving.

Planning.

Waiting.

But inside that broken safe house…

Kabir Rajvansh finally made his decision.

Not as a protector.

Not as a boss.

But as a man who had already crossed the line.

And Meera realized something terrifying.

The moment she entered his world…

he never planned to let her leave it alive without burning everything that stood between them and safety.

To be continued… 💔
