Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: What You Don’t Know

I shouldn't have followed them.

But I did.

They stepped just outside the café, voices low—but tense.

"You need to stay away from him," Adrian said.

"I can decide that for myself," Tamika replied.

"You're not thinking clearly."

"I'm thinking perfectly fine."

"You know how this ends."

There was a pause.

A heavy one.

Then Tamika spoke again—quieter this time.

"Things are different now."

"They're not," Adrian snapped. "You just want them to be."

Silence.

Then—

"He's already changing things just by being here."

My chest tightened.

What did that even mean?

Adrian exhaled slowly.

"If he remembers everything—"

"He won't," she said quickly.

"You don't know that."

"I do."

Her voice was firm now.

Certain.

But something about it felt… forced.

"And if you're wrong?" Adrian asked.

She didn't answer.

That scared me more than anything.

I stepped back before they came in, pretending I hadn't heard a thing.

But my mind was racing.

Remember everything.

Stay away from him.

You know how this ends.

What was I missing?

Because clearly—

Everyone knew something except me.

And I was starting to hate it.
