Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Stay

The rain came out of nowhere.

One second, the sky was clear.

The next—

We were running.

"Seriously?" I laughed, trying to shield my head. "This is your fault."

"My fault?" Tamika laughed. "You're the one who wanted to leave."

"I didn't say in the rain!"

Within seconds, we were soaked.

Completely.

We ducked under a small shelter, barely enough space for both of us.

Too close.

Way too close.

"You're smiling," I said, catching my breath.

"So are you."

"I am not."

She stepped closer.

"You are."

My heart picked the worst possible time to speed up.

Rain poured around us, loud, constant—but somehow everything between us felt quiet.

Still.

"You can go," she said softly. "You don't have to stay."

I looked at her.

Really looked.

At the way her expression had softened.

At the way her eyes searched mine.

"I want to," I said.

Her breath caught.

Just slightly.

And that tiny reaction—

It did something to me.

Something dangerous.

We stood there, inches apart.

The space between us felt smaller by the second.

"Felix…" she whispered.

I didn't think.

Didn't plan.

I just leaned in—

And then—

A sharp pain hit my head.

I staggered back, gripping the wall.

"Felix!" she said, panic flashing across her face. "What's wrong?"

"I… I don't know."

Images flickered.

Fast. Broken.

Her.

Rain.

Laughter.

A voice—

"Don't forget me…"

Then nothing.

The pain disappeared.

Just like that.

I looked at her.

And for the first time—

I saw fear in her eyes.

Real fear.

Like she already knew what just happened.

And that scared me more than the pain ever could.
