Takeru and Yuji continued walking through the halls.
The school was strangely peaceful.
No curses.
No fighting.
No portals.
No gods.
Just two students wandering around instead of attending class.
Takeru suddenly stopped.
He looked at Yuji.
A mischievous grin appeared on his face.
"Last one there is a rotten egg!"
Takeru immediately took off running.
"HEY!"
Yuji sprinted after him.
"THAT'S CHEATING!"
Takeru laughed as he tore down the hallway.
"THERE ARE NO RULES!"
Yuji chased him around a corner.
"YOU JUST MADE THAT UP!"
"TOO LATE!"
Takeru reached the cafeteria first.
He threw the doors open dramatically.
"I WIN!"
Yuji arrived a few seconds later, breathing heavily.
"You…"
He pointed at Takeru.
"…are annoying."
Takeru proudly nodded.
"Thank you."
Yuji walked past him.
"Okay, let's get food."
They entered the cafeteria.
Silence.
The lights were off.
The serving counters were empty.
The chairs were stacked.
A sign hung across the entrance.
CLOSED.
Takeru stared.
"…Oh."
Yuji stared.
"…It's closed."
They stood there for several seconds.
Takeru looked at Yuji.
"Want to know what I think?"
"What?"
"I think…"
Takeru pointed toward the exit.
"We should leave."
Yuji nodded.
"Yeah."
Takeru turned around.
"Let's go get some food."
The two walked back outside.
Yuji stretched.
"Where are we getting it?"
Takeru thought.
"Anywhere that isn't closed."
Yuji laughed.
"That's a pretty good requirement."
Takeru adjusted his sunglasses.
"I'm an excellent planner."
Yuji looked at him.
"You just sprinted to a closed cafeteria."
Takeru paused.
"…Minor detail."
They walked down the road together.
For once, they weren't heading toward a colony.
They weren't tracking down a cursed object.
They weren't fighting anyone.
They were just two friends going out to get lunch.
Takeru smiled.
"Honestly…"
Yuji looked over.
"Yeah?"
"This might be the most normal thing we've done in ages."
Yuji smiled.
"Let's keep it that way."
Takeru nodded.
"Deal."
They continued down the street in search of food.
