Milo Irving's gaze fell on her profile as she turned to leave, but the instant Summer Thorne glanced back, he quickly composed himself, his expression returning to normal.
Summer Thorne caught it but pretended she hadn't. "Since you've come to Valois, Mr. Irving, I should at least show some hospitality—the cake doesn't count," she said. "If you have the time, may I treat you to a meal?"
Milo Irving replied calmly, "If your heart isn't in it, there's no need to force yourself."
Summer Thorne fell silent, seeming to take his words to heart. She nodded, and without another word, walked straight out.
Just as she stepped out of the room, a furtive figure at the end of the hallway flashed past and disappeared from her sight.
Summer Thorne immediately guessed the person's identity—it was most likely someone Tiana Irving had sent to get material.
