Her phone rang. Zoe Rhodes picked it up and saw it was a call from Zane Hawthorne.
She answered without hesitation and put the phone to her ear.
They had agreed to meet at 8 p.m., which was still three hours away.
"Are you about to board your flight?"
"I'm already here," Zane Hawthorne said.
"That was fast."
"Yeah. Where are you staying? The Kingsley family's place? I'll come pick you up in a bit."
At his words, Zoe Rhodes fell silent.
"You don't have to pick me up. I have a driver who can take me there." She sidestepped the question, not planning to tell Zane Hawthorne about her and Nathan Bennett.
After a long pause, the man on the other end finally hummed in agreement, though he sounded a bit reluctant.
Silence fell. Zoe Rhodes didn't know what else he wanted to say, and she couldn't think of a topic either, so she simply stayed quiet and waited.
She had to admit, after ten years, Zane Hawthorne had become much less talkative.
