Vance was worried about the two of them going to the cafeteria alone, so he personally led them there.
He felt like he was escorting two problem children, and didn't forget to give instructions on the way. "The cafeteria can get a little crowded, so Miss Rhodes, be sure to stay close to Mr. Hawthorne."
"Also, the food in the cafeteria is just standard local fare. I hope you won't find it too disappointing, Miss Rhodes."
"And also..." Vance glanced at Zane Hawthorne and whispered, "Mind your dietary restrictions."
"Dietary restrictions?" Zoe Rhodes still managed to overhear. "Doesn't Zane Hawthorne eat everything?"
Back in school, they ate lunch and dinner together in the cafeteria every day.
She remembered clearly that Zane Hawthorne had never been a picky eater.
