Ever since Julian Winslow visited Nina Chambers at the hospital, the small flame buried deep in her heart slowly began to burn again. She felt that his visit meant he still cared about her. There were many kinds of care—between a man and a woman, between friends, or between relatives. However, she automatically categorized Julian's care as the romantic kind.
Julian was constantly busy with company affairs and didn't visit the hospital often. Even when he did, he merely exchanged a few simple words with Nina, instructed the caregiver to look after her well, and then left.
The days passed both slowly and quickly, bringing them to the end of January. During this half-month, Faye Fordham would text Julian three times a day, detailing exactly what Shalma Hughes was eating for her meals at the construction site. This was a special task Julian had personally assigned to her.
