"Can I come in and stay with you for a little while?"
Yara Quillan had been sleeping a lot lately, and all the traveling was physically draining. When it came to Henry Lester, she didn't know if she had let her guard down or if she'd had a strange sense of dependence on him from the very beginning.
Slightly stunned, she nodded.
Once in the room, Henry Lester had Yara Quillan lie down. He ruffled her hair like he always did and said, "If you're tired, get some rest. I'll take you back tomorrow morning."
During this time, the two of them had been completely cut off from the world. Neither mentioned what was happening outside, unaware that all hell had broken loose.
Yara Quillan gazed at the towering figure standing before her, at his stern, chiseled face, and her eyes slowly welled with tears. She didn't know what was wrong with her; at that moment, she wished things could stay this way forever.
