Whenever Olivia had visited the Fairchild estate in the past, the elder Mrs. Fairchild and Mrs. Fairchild would usually be chatting in the living room. Today, however, the room was vastly different. Olivia's steps faltered instinctively the moment she walked in.
The usually cozy living room was much more solemn today. The men sat on one side, and the women on the other. On the women's side, although they all wore faint smiles, no one laughed out loud. As for Mr. Fairchild's side, it was another scene entirely.
Mr. Fairchild sat in the very center, with a middle-aged, blond-haired, blue-eyed man beside him.
"Not going in?"
Zachary Fairchild's large hand was holding Olivia's small one. When he saw her hesitate, he asked softly.
"I am." Olivia answered Zachary, taking a deep breath, then followed him inside.
'I've already stepped inside, and people have seen me. It's too late to back out now.'
