Evelyn Grant was nodding off, and Sophie Keaton was by her side.
When Sophie saw her older brother arrive, she said nothing and quietly returned to her room.
Evelyn Grant didn't startle awake until she was being lifted. Limply, she rested her head in the crook of his shoulder. "You're back."
"Mm," Preston Keaton said gently. "You don't have to wait up for me. It's going to be a bit busy for the next few days. If I'm not here, just go to sleep on your own, understand?"
"I know."
Ever since he arrived in Cygnus, he had been too busy to rest.
First, he had to comfort her, and then he had to personally follow up on the investigation. He didn't even have time for dinner that evening. The moment he heard the assassin had been caught, he rushed out with Henry Sterling.
"Your father is still waiting for you in the study."
Preston Keaton carried her into the bedroom. "No rush. I'll go over after you've fallen asleep."
