Time ticked into the afternoon. City P had fallen from a bustling metropolis to a desolate ghost city. The streets were completely barren, without a single pedestrian or vehicle in sight.
Food wrappers, garbage bags, and empty cola cans aimlessly drifted down the streets, blown about by the wind. Rats that were normally chased away by people now scurried out of the sewers in search of food. Cockroaches continuously poked their heads out from the dark, damp corners of abandoned shops.
Without the usual noisy commotion of the city, birds landed freely on the pavement. Several stray cats slinked out from hidden alleyways. But the felines didn't set their sights on the rats. Instead, they jumped onto the trash cans lining the streets, digging around for anything edible. Swarms of rats gathered inside the overturned bins. In some spots, cats and rats were even bizarrely eating side-by-side.
Smash!! The sudden sound of shattering glass echoed down the street. Terrified, the rats and cats scattered in all directions, while the birds wildly flapped their wings and fled into the sky.
Smash!! Another heavy strike rang out. Following the noise, a gang of people wearing ski masks was busy smashing in the windows of a mid-sized supermarket. Once the storefront glass was completely shattered, the man holding the hammer waved to the two guys behind him.
"Go!! Go!! Go!!" There were three of them in total, each holding a large burlap sack. They rushed into the store and frantically started stuffing snacks and drinks from the shelves into their bags. Taking advantage of everyone in City P running for their lives, a few guys who weren't afraid of death seized the opportunity to go on a zero-dollar shopping spree.
However, guys like this taking advantage of the chaos weren't in the minority. They popped up all over the city streets, hunting for easy targets. Meanwhile, all the members of Dragon Team 1 and Arata regrouped at 1st Street in the center of the city.
"How's the evacuation going?" "Brother Arata, most of the people have already evacuated." "There are still a few holdouts hiding in their homes, and some people are out on the streets looting. Brother Arata, should we go deal with them?"
"No need. Your mission is already complete, so you guys hurry up and evacuate too." "You want us to leave? What about you?" Mao Xiaotong asked. "Just leave it to this pervert to stay behind and fight the Terracotta Warriors to the death."
"Are you... seriously saying you'll be fine staying here all alone?" Dragon Team 1 didn't fully comprehend the sheer scale of Arata's strength. Hearing that Arata wanted to stay behind alone to face hundreds of millions of Terracotta Warriors naturally left them shocked.
"We definitely can't leave brother Arata here by himself. I'm staying to back you up," Jackie said. "Hak Foo is staying too."
"No need, Jackie. The only thing you guys need to do right now is evacuate to the safe zone. Staying behind will just become a burden to me. Jackie, trust me. Just the two of us will be more than enough to handle the History Devil this time."
Right as he finished speaking, a woman dropped from the sky, landing perfectly behind the group. Her sudden appearance gave everyone a jump, but when they turned around, their shock turned into surprise. "Quanxi." "Hello," Quanxi responded coldly.
"Leaving the cleanup to me and Quanxi is more than enough. Hurry up and get out of here, Jackie." "Alright then." Jackie patted Arata's shoulder, his eyes full of reluctance. Then, under the watchful gaze of those two, the rest of Dragon Team 1 finally evacuated. Only Arata and Quanxi were left standing in place.
"What do we do now?" Quanxi asked. "We don't need to do anything. We just wait." "Wait how long?" "Until the rats in the tomb die. But until then, we can go do something a little more fun."
Meanwhile, over in Japan. Division 4 was currently locked in a grueling, deadlocked battle. A Snake Devil that had eaten a piece of the Gun Devil's flesh was relentlessly destroying Tokyo. It looked like a massive wyrm, completely pitch-black, and possessed two pairs of dragon-like claws. Its nearly hundred-meter-long body was enough to make anyone shudder in pure terror.
"Arata just left, and we immediately run into a devil this troublesome!" Covered in injuries, Himeno hid behind a pile of rubble. She was gasping heavily for air, her right hand clutching a bleeding wound on her left arm. Lying beside her were Aki Hayakawa, suffering from multiple fractured bones, and Kobeni, who had already passed out cold.
Ever since Arata joined Division 4, they had never fought a battle this overwhelmingly one-sided. Right now, three members were severely injured and completely out of the fight. One member was just watching from the sidelines. The remaining three members were still fighting for their lives.
"Die for the Great Power!!" A loud roar tore through the sky. Power leaped off a towering skyscraper, her hands raised high above her head as she tightly gripped a massive blood scythe. As the scythe got closer and closer, Power's mind was already playing a vivid fantasy of her slicing the Snake Devil clean in half with a single strike.
But reality hit her like a ton of bricks. The Snake Devil violently whipped its tail like a baseball bat, sending Power flying hundreds of meters away. Her body smashed through a roadside billboard and flew straight through the window of a bakery.
Crash!!! The sound of collapsing shelves echoed from inside the shop, followed by an avalanche of bread hitting the floor. Spotting a single foot sticking out from the rubble, the bakery owner curiously walked over to inspect it. "Are you okay?"
... A long pause followed, with absolutely no response. "Is she dead?" "The Great Power is not dead!"
Clatter!! The rubble and broken wooden shelves covering Power slid to the floor as she stood up from the wreckage. Looking closely, she was actually holding a French baguette in her hand. "This bread tastes pretty good. Get me a few more." Power's cheeks were puffed out like a bullfrog's as she chewed.
"Shouldn't you... be out there fighting the devil? Why are you eating bread?" "If I don't eat bread, how the hell am I supposed to have the energy to fight monsters?!" Power fiercely glared at the bakery owner. The owner jumped in fright. He quickly turned around, grabbed a paper bag, and started scooping the scattered bread off the floor into it.
"Just go eliminate that devil after you finish eating. You're a Devil Hunter from Division 4, right?" The bakery owner recognized Power. "You're pretty sensible for a human. Since I have bread, I won't suck your blood dry." Power snatched the bag of bread and swaggered out of the bakery.
But she didn't return to the battlefield at all. Instead, she slipped right around to the back alley of the bakery. The owner, who had followed her out, thought she was acting completely bizarre. He quietly tailed Power to the back of the shop, only to find her casually lying on the ground, leisurely munching on her bread without a single shred of urgency.
"Hey, aren't you... a Public Safety Devil Hunter?" Power threw a side-eye glance over her shoulder. "Don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong, human. If you dare breathe a word of this to anyone, I will absolutely suck you dry." Hearing Power's threat, the bakery owner could only scamper back inside with his tail between his legs. Whatever hopes he had of Power defending his bakery were completely dead.
Boom!!! Back on the battlefield, the Snake Devil's body was constantly whipping against the ground and completely leveling the surrounding buildings. At that exact moment, Denji was standing right on top of the Snake Devil's head. The chainsaw chains firing from his body had tightly wrapped around the Snake Devil's snout five times over. From a distance, he actually looked quite a bit like a dragon-taming master.
"Die!!" Vrrrrrrrr!!! The twin chainsaws slowly ground their way deep into the Snake Devil's skull. Howling in agony, the Snake Devil thrashed and rolled violently on the ground. The immense centrifugal force violently bucked Denji right off its head and sent him flying.
"Lord Chainsaw!" Beam hurriedly leaped into the air and caught Denji. But right then, a massive, blood-drenched maw lunged straight at them. In a split second, the Snake Devil swallowed both of them whole.
"Denji!!" Himeno screamed. She then glared fiercely behind her with utter annoyance. "Kana Okura, why the hell aren't you helping?!" "I'm too weak, I can't really do much to help," Kana put on a helpless act, but in reality, she just didn't want to get involved. She wasn't ready to expose her abilities just yet. Plus, whether the rest of Division 4 lived or died had absolutely nothing to do with her.
Boom!!! Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the sky above. The Snake Devil snapped its head up to look. A slender figure shot out from the smoke. She had a torpedo for a head and was wearing an apron covered in dynamite. The Snake Devil opened its jaws wide to meet the challenge. But completely exceeding its expectations, the figure flew directly down the Snake Devil's throat.
