Burp~ After swallowing Reze, the Snake Devil let out a burp and exhaled a puff of black smoke. But it quickly realized something was wrong. Its pupils instantly dilated. Vrrrrrrrr!! Three chainsaws pierced out from its stomach one after another. Immediately after, its body began to swell. Boom!!
With the snake's head detonating first, the hundred-meter-long serpent went off like a string of lit firecrackers. It exploded all the way from its head down to its tail. It rang out a full fifty times, the explosions absolutely deafening. The resulting black smoke continuously spread, draping the surroundings in a dark, hazy veil.
Standing with her back to the Snake Devil was a devil with a torpedo for a head. The shockwaves from the explosions fluttered the hem of her skirt. In her hands, she was gripping the ankles of two men. "Denji-kun, I saved you," Reze said, letting go as their feet dropped to the ground. "Reze, why are you here?" Denji hurriedly scrambled up and asked.
"I was shopping nearby, heard the commotion, and rushed right over. But as soon as I arrived, I saw Denji-kun get swallowed whole by the Snake Devil." "I wouldn't want the teacher to come back and find out he's missing an apprentice." "I totally let the Snake Devil eat me on purpose! I was planning to rip its stomach open from the inside, but you just beat me to it, Reze."
"That's a pretty good excuse, Denji-kun." "It's not an excuse!! It's the truth!" Denji roared. He clearly didn't want Reze to look down on his strength. "Lord Chainsaw isn't lying! He really was cutting up the Snake Devil from the inside!" Beam clenched his fists and argued.
"Looks like Denji-kun took in an apprentice of his own." "He's not my apprentice, he's my fanboy." "Denji!!" Himeno's voice called out from beyond the smoke. After the Snake Devil died, Himeno quickly rushed into the smoke to check on Denji and the rookies.
"Senior Himeno is looking for you. Well then, Denji-kun, I'll be going now." Boom!!! Flames erupted beneath her feet as Reze rode the explosion and shot into the sky. Staring up at her as she flew away, Denji suddenly realized there was absolutely nothing underneath that bomb apron. It gave him a crystal-clear view of something he probably shouldn't have seen.
"Denji!!" Himeno shouted, following the blurry silhouettes in the smoke as she ran over. "Lord Chainsaw, someone is calling you." Beam shook Denji. But Denji hadn't snapped out of it yet. His mind was completely fixated on the place where all human life begins.
"Are you guys okay?" Seeing the two of them standing, Himeno breathed a sigh of relief. "Lord Chainsaw!!" "What's wrong with him?" "I'm not sure. It looks like his soul got sucked away by something."
"That's an easy fix," Himeno smiled. "Denji-kun, there are three naked female college students over there!" "Where!!" Denji violently whipped his head around. "There you go, you're back with us, Denji-kun." When he turned around, he only saw Himeno. There were absolutely no college students anywhere.
"Senior Himeno, never make that kind of joke again!!" Denji roared in sheer disappointment. "By the way, Denji-kun, did you happen to see another devil?" Denji knew Himeno was talking about Reze. But to keep her secret, he didn't say a word. He just brushed it off by saying he had no idea because he was too busy fighting at the time.
Himeno didn't doubt Denji's answer in the slightest. She was simply intrigued by that mysterious devil. After all, it had killed the Snake Devil and saved Division 4. "How are Aki and Kobeni?" "Aki's bones are fractured so he can't move, and Kobeni passed out completely."
Himeno led the two of them back to where Aki Hayakawa was resting. "Aki, are you alright?" Aki's eyes were open, and his expression looked relatively fine. "Cough... I'm okay. Check on Kobeni." "Don't worry, Aki. Kobeni just fainted. I've already called for an ambulance."
"Senior Himeno, where's the other rookie?" Denji looked around. "She's over there!" Himeno pointed toward another pile of rubble. The two of them walked around the debris and found Kana Okura, her clothes still perfectly clean. "Hey, you didn't do a single damn thing this time, did you?" Denji yelled at Kana, completely dissatisfied.
"I... I was scared, so..." "Scared? If you're so scared, why the hell did you even join Division 4? I thought you actually had some skills, but you never even planned on fighting." "I usually protect the rookies, but what you just did really disappointed your seniors," Himeno added.
"You're even worse than Kobeni. Do yourself a favor and hand in your resignation when we get back. Consider that advice from your senior. Division 4 doesn't need dead weight like you." Denji spat viciously, completely ignoring Kana after that. He then walked back over to Aki. "What did you two just say to her?" Aki asked.
"Just said what needed to be said." Denji's huffing and puffing expression almost made Aki burst out laughing. "I didn't expect you to start lecturing rookies the second you became a senior." "Stop with the sarcasm. Next time we run into a giant devil like that, you guys shouldn't even interfere. Just leave it completely to me and Power. Immortal devils like us are the best fit to deal with them."
"Not interfere? I don't want to end up like Kana Okura and get lectured by you for being useless." Aki smiled slightly. He could feel that Denji really had grown a lot. From constantly wanting to kick Denji out of Division 4 in the beginning, Denji had now become an absolutely indispensable powerhouse for the team. "We're over here!" Himeno waved at the arriving ambulance.
Soon enough, Aki was loaded onto the stretcher. Before getting in, he didn't forget to remind Denji to collect the Snake Devil's corpse for Arata. "We meet again." The middle-aged paramedic in the ambulance enthusiastically greeted Aki, then added, "Thank you all for your hard work." "You are?" The man was wearing a surgical mask, so Aki didn't recognize him at all.
"You rode in my ambulance once before. We even talked about the Surgery Devil." "Oh, it's you." Aki had zero desire to continue the conversation. "Mister, I heard Aki didn't even get fed the last time he was in the hospital." Himeno hopped into the ambulance along with him.
"I think it was because they were being too noisy." The paramedic wasn't entirely sure of the exact details either. But Aki really didn't want to bring up the past. Having Himeno accompanying him this time made him feel significantly more at ease. If he absolutely had to put a label on Arata, Power, and Denji's bedside manner from last time... they were unquestionably the absolute worst caretakers in existence.
After the ambulance drove off. Denji dragged Beam along to find a cooler box. He then started tossing the scattered chunks of devil flesh from the ground into the cooler one by one. "Lord Chainsaw, are we packing this up to grill and eat later?"
"What the hell are you thinking? I don't eat devil meat." "Lord Chainsaw, look what this is!" Beam found a piece of flesh shaped like a bullet casing hidden among the gore. "A piece of the Gun Devil's flesh." Denji snatched it away and stuffed it into his pocket. "This meat is super strong. Any devil that eats it gets their power boosted several times over."
"A piece of the Gun Devil's flesh! But compared to Lord Chainsaw's flesh, it's absolutely nothing! If Lord Chainsaw would reward me with a piece of his flesh, I would absolutely cherish that power!" "What the hell!! I treat you like a fan, and you actually want to eat me?!" "No, Lord Chainsaw, you misunderstand!" Beam instantly dropped into a half-crouch to explain, always maintaining a totally subservient and groveling posture whenever he was in front of Denji.
