I opened my eyes very slowly, I was still feeling the effects of that smoke bomb. I heard arguing in the background, the Chimera and the Vampire didn't seem to like each other very much.
"It's nothing personal, he broke his cuffs and I had to sedate him, you just happened to be in my way" The Chimera said.
"Just my luck, I'm working with an idiot" The Vampire yelled.
The Chimera growled "Say that again and see what happens"
"You are an idiot. We've been hunting him and the others for over a decade, you should know that a basic supernatural cuff won't hold them because of the origin of their powers"
The Vampire noticed I was awake, she turned to me "Hey sugar, that was quite a show you put on back there"
I looked around, It looked like we were in an apartment, we were in a room that was completely bare, no decorations, no bed, the only furniture in the room was the one chair I was sitting on. My arms and legs were wrapped in chains, I tried to break them like I did the cuffs but it didn't work.
"Don't waste your strength dear, these chains were specifically designed to hold beings with your level of power" The Vampire said.
The Chimera walked to the window and looked outside as if he was trying to find someone "We need to get out of this town, the boss will be expecting us"
"It's going to be hard with the AMU swarming the town"
"Who are you guys? And who keeps sending you after me?" I yelled in frustration.
"You really don't know anything" The Vampire laughed. "Darling boy, we are two of the five henchmen. The Elite and best in combat, skill, intelligence and ruthlessness, handpicked by the Arbiter himself to aid him in creating the perfect reality for all living things"
"The Arbiter? He's the one that sent you guys after me right?" I inquired.
"You ask too much questions" The Chimera grabbed my face and wrapped duct tape around my lips. He turned to the vampire "I'll go find us a new car, keep an eye on him and stop chatting with him"
The Vampire waited for the Chimera to leave the house before removing the duct tape around my lips "Sorry about Luis, he's a big idiot"
"So his name is Luis?"
The Vampire smiled from ear to ear "Yeah, my name is Megan"
I was confused, I stared at her not knowing what to say.
"It's okay Fred, we can talk freely now that Luis is gone. I'm so excited to finally meet you" She said.
"You threatened to rip out my friend's throat and then kidnapped me, so you'll forgive me if I don't share your enthusiasm" I responded.
The Vampire, or should I say Megan giggled "Oh that, that was just tough girl talk to get you to cooperate. Don't get me wrong, I am really old and dangerous but I don't intend on hurting you. I want to show you the truth, the origin of your powers and with the truth you'll side with us"
I scoffed "I know the origin of my powers, I don't need your help"
"Trust me dear, you really don't. I can show you who your real friends are"
"Your partner killed and hurt people in my home town, you people are definitely not my friends"
"It would be better if the Arbiter explained everything to you himself" Megan said and then we heard a sound in the house, like someone had knocked something over, she immediately put duct tape over my lips and went to the door to see who it was. I started struggling with my chains, making as much noise as I could.
"Stop that" She said.
I continued to struggle and the chain wrapped around my hands snapped. I looked at her and our eyes met, she seemed really shocked "That's not possible" she said and then rushed towards me but she wasn't fast enough, my hands were free but unfortunately my legs were still chained. She knocked me out of the chair to the floor and tried to grab my arms. In the chaos of the struggle, someone entered the room and the next thing I heard were two gunshots. The Vampire released me and stood up slowly, I looked at the shooter and had a great deal of relief when I realized it was Mr. Adler a.k.a the Alchemist.
"Those bullets are made of wood and soaked in garlic, I'm sure the pain is unbelievable. Now step away from the kid" Mr. Adler barked.
The Vampire laughed "I'm not your average vampire, thanks to the Arbiter I'm evolved" The two bullets that Mr. Adler put in her dropped to the floor, like little pebbles. She began to approach him with clear intent to do harm. Mr. Adler opened fire and emptied his magazine. I quickly grabbed the chains tied to my legs and pulled with all my strength and they snapped. I got up quickly and rammed myself into the vampire with so much force that we both went through the wall to the other room.
"Get away from her" Mr. Adler yelled. I could hear him reloading his gun, I quickly rolled away in the other direction and he watched him empty the bullets into the vampire.
"I thought we established those don't work" She rushed Mr. Adler, picked him up with one arm and slammed him against the wall. I rushed over and tried to punch her but she caught my arm and also slammed me against the wall, she now had me on one arm and Mr. Adler on the other but she was finding it difficult to keep me against the wall because of my strength, I pushed her arm away but she quickly grabbed my shirt and slammed me against the wall again.
"Stop it. I'd hate to ruin that handsome face darling" She said.
"Don't call me darling" I punched her in the face so hard that she let go of both of us. Mr. Adler picked up his gun quickly and shot her straight in the head and she went down.
"That will only slow her down, we have to go" Mr. Adler said. We hurried out the room and got to the living room when we heard a car pull up in the driveway.
"The Chimera" I whispered.
"Let's go out the back quickly" He said, we basically ran out the back. "My car is around the corner"
We were still on our way to the car when we saw Luis and Megan exit the house, Megan had a blood stain on her head where Mr. Adler shot her but aside from that she looked calm and unfazed, like that fight back there was nothing. They spotted us and the Chimera brought something out of his pocket, it was the same green glowing stone he had back at Stowe.
I looked at Mr. Adler "He used that to control the dire beast, you don't think the dire beast is here do you?"
"The AMU has been monitoring Stowe's borders, it'll be impossible for something that big to leave Stowe without someone noticing"
"What are you doing? The Vampire held the Chimera's hand. "We're supposed to get him and get out, this was supposed to be subtle"
"Change of plans" The Chimera said and then pointed the stone in my direction "I told him what I'd do if he didn't come alone. What happens next is on you kid"
The Chimera then raised the glowing green stone and it glowed even brighter, there was a little quake and I don't know how best to describe this but the ground literally opened up, like split in two which made the quake worse, a light pole across the street fell, car alarms went off. I wasn't sure what the Chimera was doing but it all became clear when the dire beast crawled out from the big hole now in the middle of the street, as soon as he came out the ground closed up again.
"Get them" The Chimera yelled, the dire beast let out a roar that shook the whole neighborhood.
"Run" Mr. Adler yelled, we both took off while hearing the thunderous gallops of that beast chasing after us.
