Chapter 484 - Darui’s Trump Card

Chapter 484: Darui's Trump Card

Darui kept his gaze fixed firmly on the floorboards. Cold sweat beaded at his collar. The air in the command tent felt thick, suffocatingly heavy under the weight of the man sitting opposite him. A head-on clash now meant total annihilation. Their only remaining lifeline was time. If he could just keep Uchiha Akira talking, if he could stall long enough for their covert infiltration units to strike deep within the Land of Fire's borders and ignite chaos in the civilian sectors... then, to quell domestic panic, Akira would have no choice but to pull back and negotiate.

Darui's jaw locked. The metallic taste of blood seeped onto his tongue as he bit down on his pride, swallowing the bitter ash of humiliation.

"Hokage-sama." Darui's voice was hoarse, strained tight. "If you agree to release the Raikage and halt your vanguard's advance... Kumogakure and Iwagakure are prepared to formally submit."

He paused, letting the weight of the concession hang in the air.

"We will broadcast a joint declaration to the entire Ninja World, officially recognizing Konoha's absolute supremacy. From this day forward, the Leaf will stand above all others. Your will, Hokage-sama, shall be the absolute law of the lands."

Darui tilted his chin up just a fraction, his dark eyes darting to catch any flicker of emotion on the Uchiha's face.

"Through this, Konoha secures the throne of the world without shedding another drop of blood. The war ends today. Millions of lives are spared. It is a victory for everyone."

Beside him, Kitsuchi stiffened. The massive Iwagakure shinobi's facial muscles spasmed, his pride warring with his survival instinct. Slowly, agonizingly, his lips stretched into a stiff, ingratiating smile.

"Y-yes," Kitsuchi stammered, his deep voice lacking its usual thunder. "Lord Tsuchikage shares this exact sentiment. Bleeding our forces dry serves no practical purpose anymore. Iwagakure formally requests to open friendly, equal negotiations with you, Hokage-sama."

The silence that followed was deafening. Both men stopped breathing. Their muscles coiled tight, waiting for the verdict. They had laid their throats bare. This was the absolute limit of their surrender.

Akira shifted. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, and the temperature in the tent plummeted. An invisible, crushing gravity slammed down on Darui and Kitsuchi's shoulders, forcing them to brace their legs just to remain standing.

"Let us clarify the current situation," Akira said. His voice was smooth, quiet, and utterly devoid of warmth. "Konoha has won. You have lost. And it is not merely a loss. It is a total, humiliating slaughter."

Akira spread his hands, his posture relaxed, almost bored.

"Konoha does not require your permission to be the strongest. We already are. In fact, I can simply march my armies across your borders tomorrow, wipe your hidden villages from the map, and absorb every inch of your land into the Fire Nation."

His dark eyes locked onto Darui.

"If the end result is exactly the same, why would I accept a scrap of paper offering me something I already own? Your acknowledgment is entirely worthless to me."

Darui's pupils shrank to pinpricks. The sheer, unapologetic arrogance of the man defied logic. Panic flared in Darui's chest, quickly morphing into desperate indignation. He threw his head back, abandoning his submissive posture.

"Hokage-sama!" he snapped, his voice rising in pitch. "You wield the power of a god, yet you possess not a single shred of mercy? If you force this annihilation, if you try to conquer the entire world by force, you will plunge us all into a grinding, endless war of attrition! Do you have any idea how many will die? How many families will be burned to ash?"

Darui stepped forward, his chest heaving, wrapping himself in the armor of righteous fury.

"War breeds nothing but endless cycles of hatred! As the Hokage, your duty is to protect peace! To protect the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire! Do you truly wish to sit on a throne built entirely atop a mountain of corpses?"

The impassioned speech echoed through the canvas walls. Beside him, Kitsuchi's eyes widened slightly in silent approval. It was a flawless tactical strike at a leader's conscience. Any normal Kage, any politician concerned with their historical legacy or the moral burden of their title, would flinch at such a heavy accusation.

But the man sitting before them was not a normal politician. He was Uchiha Akira. A man who had long ago dissected the rotting, hypocritical core of the shinobi system.

"Mercy?"

The faint, mocking amusement vanished from Akira's face. What replaced it was a glacial, terrifying emptiness.

"Darui." Akira's voice dropped to a deadly whisper. "Swallow your sickening hypocrisy before I cut out your tongue."

He rose from his seat. The movement was slow, deliberate, yet it felt as though a predator had just uncoiled.

"You stand there and preach to me about the horrors of war and death?"

Akira stepped down from the dais, his boots clicking softly against the floorboards until he stood mere inches from the Kumogakure commander. He towered over Darui, casting a long, dark shadow over the man's face.

"Let me ask you a question, then. How many millions bled into the mud during the First Great Ninja War? How many children were orphaned in the Second? And the Third?"

Akira's voice was a blade of ice sliding between Darui's ribs.

"Three global slaughters. Three generations fed into the meat grinder. Did any of those conflicts lack mountains of corpses? Did any of them spare the innocent civilians you suddenly care so deeply about? And what, exactly, was the root cause of all that endless butchery?"

Akira leaned down. His eyelids narrowed, revealing the captivating, terrifying ripple-pattern of the Rinnegan. The purple rings seemed to glow in the dim light, piercing straight through Darui's bravado and into his trembling soul.

"It is because there are five hidden villages," Akira hissed, the venom finally bleeding into his tone. "It is because of the absolute farce you call the Five Great Nations. For your petty economic interests, for a few miles of barren rock and forest, you plot, you scheme, and you slaughter each other. Every few decades, like clockwork, your precious Kages drag the entire world back into the abyss of war just to line your own pockets. Is this the sacred balance you are begging me to preserve?"

Darui opened his mouth. His jaw worked, desperate to find a counterargument, a flaw in the logic, but his throat seized up. No words came out. He was choking on the absolute, bloody truth of the Uchiha's words.

"Your so-called balance is nothing but a pathetic lie," Akira continued, straightening his posture and turning away. He spread his arms wide, embracing the quiet expanse of the tent. "A lie woven by weak men to artificially prolong their own miserable existence. As long as there are divided borders, as long as there are different flags and competing voices in this world, the wars will never, ever stop. So, the solution is simple."

Akira looked back over his shoulder, his Rinnegan flashing.

"I will erase all those other voices. I will ensure the Ninja World has only one voice left to speak: Konoha's. When every man, woman, and child lives under a single banner, who is left to wage war against? That is true peace."

He had not shouted. His tone had remained entirely conversational, yet the sheer magnitude of his ambition struck Darui and Kitsuchi like a physical blow. A cold numbness spread across their scalps. Uchiha Akira was not posturing for better trade routes or war reparations. He fully intended to shatter the millennium-old geopolitical foundation of the world and rebuild it in his own image.

"That... that is pure sophistry!" Darui spat, his face draining of all color. He took a shaky step back. "That is tyranny! You are just using overwhelming violence to enslave everyone!"

"So what if I am?" Akira replied, his expression utterly bored. "Power is an inanimate concept. It possesses no inherent morality. It is neither right nor wrong. The only thing that matters is who wields it. In my hands, absolute power creates absolute order. In your hands, it breeds nothing but endless chaos."

Having delivered his verdict, Akira seemed to lose all interest in the conversation. He turned his back entirely on the two enemy commanders, walking slowly toward the tactical map draped across his desk.

"More to the point," Akira murmured, his voice drifting over his shoulder. "Did you actually convince yourselves that you walked into this tent holding any real bargaining chips?"

Darui's heart plummeted into his stomach. A sickening, icy dread coiled in his gut. The Uchiha was too calm. Too dismissive. But Darui had no other moves left to play. He forced his shaking hands to clench into fists, a desperate, cornered ruthlessness flaring in his dark eyes.

"Hokage-sama," Darui ground out, his voice trembling with forced bravado. "We may have lost the main battlefield. But the Land of Fire is vast, and its borders are porous. As we speak, our elite infiltration units have already penetrated deep into your civilian heartland."

If groveling would not save them, he would have to burn the bridge. Darui threw caution to the wind, slamming his final, bloodstained trump card onto the table.
