Chapter 140 - Chapter 140

The phone rang three times, three long times where Alan could practically hear the sound of his heart iinside of his own ears before the call to the security line finally connected.

"Hello? Security here." The voice on the other side of the line spoke, it was clearly a man's voice, sounding quite old though not exactly elderly, if Alan had to judge, he would likely say that the voice belonged to a fourty of fifty year old man.

"Hello, calling from room 505 currently, I was just calling to ask about the situation and whats happening." Alan spoke as he brought the phone closer to his mouth.

For a few moments, silenece reigned on the phone line, no reply coming to Alan after he had finished his question, finally after a while, the voice on the other side of the line spoke once more.

"I… did not expect for there to be more survivors… have you been outside yet?" The voice of the man said slowly, it almost looked like it was completely coloured in an emotion of disbelief as it spoke towards Alan.

"What… do you mean by that? No… I havn't been outside and yeah I'm… alive." Alan spoke as he tilted his head at what the voice had said over the phone line.

"I see… well let me explain then… no matter what you do, do not open your apartments front door, no matter what you hear, no matter what, under no circumstances should you open your door without me telling you to. There are things out there, in the halls, that would not take likely to you going out and looking at them… I currently still have access to the security cameras around the apartment building and as such have atleast some ability in telling you when it is safe for you to head out and try and get as many supplies as you can from other apartments." The voice of the man spoke, its tone was grave as it talked about the hallways and the apparent danger that seemed to have come inside of the building.

'There's something out there that's killing people?… just because people are looking at it or maybe it has some other kind of reason.' Alan thought to himself as he took a deep breath and gave a nod, though the man on the other side of the line wouldn't be able to see that he had nodded.

"Do you know what those things are? The ones roaming around the hallways." Alan spoke softly, his voice tight however it didn't tremble nor was it colored in fear as one might have expected from a reguar person in his situation, Alan had stopped being normal for a while now aftearall.

"You're taking this better than I expected you to take it." The voice spoke for a moment before silence emerged once more as the man on the other side seemed to think for a moment of the best way it could explain what was happening outside without sounding utterly insane.

"You don't need to worry about me not beliving in your story, I will. Just saying that in case that was your concern on the matter." Alan spoke before the man could continue his words as he interrupted his line of thought.

"Ah… yes, that was actually what I was thinking about, the story is a bit… how do I say this… nonsensical? But since you already said that… ill just be upfront with you, the rest of the people who lived inside of this apartment building have gone insane, most of them atleast thought some are still alive I think… what I heard is that it was appaerantly some kind of mental virus that makes them go insane and in some cases even changes their appearance to be one that resembles monsters. The signs are simple to notice, nose bleeding, seeing hallucinations, your mind fogging up and overall confusion, those are the first signs of the sickness." The man on the other side of the phone line said, his voice seemed slightly tinged in fear whilst also carrying a tone of almost… reminiscience as if the man was remembering something whilst he was talking.

'A mental hex… I've already dealt with mental hex's before… damned… still, something that makes the people go insane and in severe cases even trasnforms their bodies, I should look and see if I have any of the symptoms if anything does happen… considering that the system is being even more uncooporative since I woke up, with it not even letting me open the status menu… I should most defiently be as careful as possible with anything around here.' Alan thought to himself as he realsed a soft hum of his voice in agreement towards the man.

"I see… who are the other survivors?" Alan asked curiously, however before the man on the other line could respond, a loud screaming sound was heard from outside of Alan's own apartment, the sound was clearly close, clearly someone was screaming… or rather something was.

"Shit…. No matter what you do, do not make a sound, I'm ending the call now, stay silent. Do not move." The man spoke in a rush before the ding sound was heard as the call disconnected.

Slowly lifting the telephone back up and placing it back at its place on the wall, Alan slowly walked towards the front door of the apartment and leaned in towards the small eyehole to look out…
