The first thing I noticed was the silence.
No ringing phones.
No emergency meetings.
No reporters.
No family drama.
Just waves.
Endless waves.
I sat on the balcony of our villa.
Watching the ocean stretch toward the horizon.
The water sparkled under the morning sun.
Peaceful.
Perfect.
Almost unreal.
A year ago, I would've thought this kind of life was impossible.
Now?
I was living it.
The balcony door slid open behind me.
And suddenly—
The peace disappeared.
"You're awake already?"
I turned.
Immediately smiling.
My wife stood in the doorway.
Hair messy.
Still half asleep.
And somehow—
More beautiful than ever.
She narrowed her eyes.
"Why are you smiling like that?"
"Like what?"
"Like you're planning something."
I laughed.
"I just woke up."
"Exactly."
Suspicious.
Very suspicious.
She walked over and sat beside me.
Immediately stealing half my chair.
"That's my space."
"We're married."
"So?"
"That means everything is my space now."
I stared.
She stared back.
The confidence was unbelievable.
"Pretty sure that's not how marriage works."
"It is if I decide it is."
I sighed dramatically.
"Marriage is a scam."
She laughed.
The kind of laugh that made everything feel lighter.
God.
I loved that laugh.
For a few minutes—
We simply sat together.
Watching the waves.
Listening to the ocean.
No words necessary.
Just us.
Finally—
She broke the silence.
"So."
Uh oh.
Whenever she started a sentence with "so," trouble usually followed.
"What?"
A smile appeared.
"We're going snorkeling today."
I blinked.
"No."
Her smile grew wider.
"Yes."
"I don't trust the ocean."
"The ocean isn't plotting against you."
"That's exactly what the ocean wants me to think."
She laughed so hard she nearly fell out of the chair.
"You're ridiculous."
"Alive."
"Ridiculous."
"Still alive."
The debate continued all the way through breakfast.
And unfortunately—
I lost.
Completely.
Which was how I found myself standing on a beach an hour later.
Holding snorkeling gear.
Questioning every life decision I'd ever made.
"This is fine."
She raised an eyebrow.
"You look terrified."
"I'm not terrified."
A pause.
"I'm professionally concerned."
She shook her head.
Still laughing.
And honestly—
Watching her happy made all of it worth it.
Even the ocean.
Especially the ocean.
Because for the first time in our lives—
There was nowhere we needed to be.
Nothing we needed to solve.
No battle waiting around the corner.
Just sunlight.
Just laughter.
Just love.
And maybe—
Just maybe—
That was the greatest adventure of all.
