Chapter 71 - Chapter 72: Please Put Away the Sympathy in Your Eyes!

"Here we are!" Takagi Wataru opened the door to the First Investigation Division's office. "Please come in."

There were only two police officers in the office; one was organizing documents, the other was on the phone.

Rows of empty seats were arranged neatly, the desks were clean and tidy, and even the windows and floors were polished bright.

The Detective Boys were stunned.

"There's hardly anyone here..." Mitsuhiko murmured.

"Because everyone is busy," Takagi Wataru asked with a smile. "Surprised, right?"

Genta was in disbelief. "I always thought a police office would be filled with smoke..."

"I thought as soon as we entered, there would be lots of scary-looking uncles staring at us!" Ayumi added.

Takagi Wataru broke a sweat and quickly explained with a smile, "That's only in TV dramas..."

Chi Feichi followed them in and took a glance. "If you want to see a smoke-filled room, come when there are more people."

Takagi Wataru recalled. Okay, it is indeed messier when there are more people, and some people do smoke in the office...

That hit home. Guessed completely right, and I can't even refute it with a clear conscience.

Don't we police officers need to save face?

"It's better like this," Mitsuhiko said seriously. "Being clean and tidy is more popular with girls. If it's too messy, it's hard to find a girlfriend!"

Haibara Ai and Yoshida Ayumi turned to look at Chi Feichi. Speaking of tidiness, Chi Feichi gave off that exact impression.

Living alone, his apartment was also kept very clean.

Although it was hard to see stains on the black clothes he usually wore, details like the cuffs and buttons showed he was definitely someone who paid attention to details.

However...

"Brother Chi still doesn't have a girlfriend, right?" Ayumi looked at Chi Feichi with a hint of sympathy and a bit of indignation on his behalf.

Chi Feichi: "..."

I clean my house to make myself feel comfortable, not to pick up girls...

Professor Agasa smiled proactively at Chi Feichi. "I can introduce you to my cousin's granddaughter!"

Chi Feichi had black lines dropping down his forehead. "No need."

"Then Officer Takagi..." Mitsuhiko looked at Takagi Wataru again. "You definitely don't have a girlfriend either, right!"

Takagi Wataru: "..."

I'm obviously here to take statements; why keep stabbing me in the heart?

Professor Agasa enthusiastically recommended again, "My cousin's granddaughter..."

"N-No need," Takagi Wataru hurriedly explained. "I already have someone I like!"

Chi Feichi saw Sato Miwako walking in. "Officer Sato."

The group of children all saw Sato Miwako walking in. Only Takagi Wataru, with his back to the door, heard Chi Feichi say this. His face instantly turned red, and he stammered, "No... w-well, not exactly, how did you know I... I actually..."

"Takagi, what are these children doing here? If they're lost, they should be sent to the Community Safety Division, right?" Sato Miwako was puzzled, then looked at Chi Feichi. "You are..."

Takagi Wataru turned around dazedly.

Could it be that Chi Feichi was just greeting Sato Miwako earlier?

Then my reaction just now... did it give anything away?

So nervous...

"Chi Feichi, here to give a statement today." Chi Feichi's expression remained unchanged.

Trying to tease an honest person didn't feel that great after all. He was a bit too dazed; teasing him wasn't fun.

"Is big sister a police officer too?" Genta asked.

"Officer Takagi's reaction just now was so weird," Mitsuhiko looked at the two suspiciously. "Could the person you like be this big sister?"

"No... I..." Takagi Wataru wanted to explain but felt denying it wasn't quite right either.

"Even Officer Takagi has someone he likes..." Ayumi turned to look at Chi Feichi.

Chi Feichi: "..."

Please put away the sympathy in your eyes!

Sato recalled for a moment but couldn't remember meeting Chi Feichi. She had heard of him, assuming she had inadvertently seen him near a crime scene before. She greeted the Detective Boys first. "Hello, I am Sato Miwako, a female officer in the First Investigation Division's Violent Crimes Unit 3. Takagi, who exactly are these children..."

"They are also here to give statements," Takagi Wataru hurriedly said. "It's about the Blue Castle case..."

"So they are the children who found the culprit with Mr. Chi," Sato Miwako smiled and sized up the group of children. "I heard you performed very well."

"We also need to give a statement for the movie theater case," Mitsuhiko said seriously, afraid of being looked down upon. "It was us, the Detective Boys, who demonstrated the trick that time too!"

Chi Feichi: "..."

Giving statements isn't something to brag about, right?

Sure enough, they have too little homework!

Speaking of which, he and Conan still had to give statements for the Magic Lovers case and the Morizono family case...

"Right, big sister is that agile female officer from the stadium case!" Ayumi remembered seeing Sato Miwako before.

Sato Miwako also remembered. "You are the little brats who were wandering around the stadium that day?"

"We weren't wandering around," Mitsuhiko retorted. "We were working hard to assist in the investigation!"

"We didn't hinder the investigation..." Ayumi also said.

"That's right," Genta said. "We Detective Boys are upholding justice. Isn't that right?"

"Although you helped the police a lot," Sato Miwako approached and leaned down to Genta, "there is one thing you must remember. The word 'justice' shouldn't be spoken lightly. It should be kept firmly in your own hearts. Do you understand what I mean, little detectives?"

"Mm..."

The three children nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.

Sato Miwako straightened up and laughed. "Was that a bit too wordy?"

"N-No," Takagi Wataru blushed again. "But Officer Sato, why are you here? Weren't you investigating the 200 million yen bank robbery with Inspector Megure?"

"Still because of that case," Sato Miwako said. "The bank manager called last night saying he suddenly remembered something. He and his wife will come to the MPD at 2 PM today..."

"Why are the couple coming together?" Conan turned into a curious baby again.

"Because when the robbery happened, the manager's wife had just arrived at the bank and was held hostage with a gun to her head by the robber," Sato Miwako explained. "Maybe she remembered something."

"But this is strange," Takagi Wataru was confused. "The manager's wife also called me last night. She said she wanted to talk to me about the robber and would come alone at 5 PM."

"The manager also mentioned that on the phone. He was worried the robber might harm his wife, so they would come together during daylight," a hint of meaning flashed in Sato Miwako's eyes. "However, it would have been better if he came alone. After today, his wife won't need to worry anymore."

"Eh?" Conan was puzzled. What does that mean...

Sato Miwako had already turned to ask Takagi Wataru, "By the way, did Yumi from the Traffic Division say anything to you yesterday? I went drinking with her last night, got drunk, and talked a lot. I don't know what I said..."

Takagi Wataru remembered Miyamoto Yumi telling him yesterday that the person Sato Miwako liked was in the First Investigation Division and very likely him. His heart rate instantly accelerated.

"Officer Sato!"

A police officer stood at the door with a portly man and saluted. "I've brought the manager of Toto Bank!"

Sato Miwako smiled and greeted, "Come in."

Chi Feichi thought of the bounty list from last night, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curve up slightly.

An unlucky guy robbed a bank three days ago. Just as he came out, he was spotted by Feimo, who led a team to watch the show. Where he threw the evidence, where he hid the loot—the crows saw everything clearly. Chi Feichi had packaged him up and delivered him completely.

If that robber was the culprit of this case, things would be interesting.

Because this case involved police romance, he remembered it quite clearly. The bank was robbed by this manager in collusion with a friend, and this manager also silenced his wife by killing her...

Haibara Ai keenly caught the change in Chi Feichi's expression and was somewhat surprised. There weren't many things that could make Chi Feichi smile. "What's wrong?"

"Shh..." Chi Feichi continued to stare at Masuo Keizo.

Haibara Ai turned her head and saw that Conan's expression also held a bit of suppressed laughter. Looking up again, she found that Sato Miwako's smile seemed to contain a hint of weirdness...

Why is everyone acting so strange?

Bank manager Masuo Keizo entered the room, looked at his watch, and sighed in relief. "Finally made it on time..."

Click.

A handcuff locked onto Masuo Keizo's wrist, the one wearing the watch.
