Chapter 17 - pleasing scents

Maya stood outside the pack house with shaky hands. It was finally time, Charlie and Zac tried their best to stop her from going, knowing that Ace was probably going to be outraged when he saw that mate marking on her neck and it wasn't from him. Her hand reached up, knocking softly on the door. Shortly after the door was swung open. Ace stood in front of her.

Ace tilted his head at her, no emotions were evident on his face. His eyes raked down her body shamelessly, drinking in her appearance. Maya took her time doing the same for him, but not for the same reason. She was examining the amount of damage this entire thing had taken on Ace.

Maya was dressed in black jeans and a red hoodie. She wasn't trying to impress Ace but Ace still couldn't help but think that she looked absolutely gorgeous. His entire body ignited with a heat that only she could give him. That heavy, dark, and empty hole that was building in the core of his soul seemed to feel a lot lighter.

That storm that was raging in his eyes cleared in a matter of seconds. Maya stared at him, waiting for him to say something, or invite her in something along the lines. Ace moved aside, allowing Maya to enter the house. The faint music that could be heard outside was now much clearer. The beat made the walls vibrate. Maya enjoyed the vibe but shook away the thoughts. She was here on a mission that she intended to get done as soon as possible.

Ace was wearing a pair of black sweatpants that hung dangerously low on his hips. His torso had small splatters of blood scattered all over. His knuckles were torn as fresh blood poured out of the wounds. "You okay?" Maya asked as she pointed at his hand.

Ace furrowed his brows as glanced down at his hand. He made a sound of understanding before he nodded his head. "Yeah, I'm fine."

Maya nodded her head. It was awkward. She wasn't sure how to bring it up, she didn't know if she should ease her way into it all or should she just be straight forwards and tell him. Like ripping the bandaid off. "Ac-"

"I know. Go ahead," His voice became harsh as that small spark vanished yet again. Maya's head snapped up towards him, she saw the darkness. That same darkness that Zac had seen that day. That terrifying abyss that loomed in his eyes that no matter how hard you tried to look for any sort of emotion, you'd find yourself getting deeper and deep into the darkness. "Are you going to say anything or are you going to sit there dumbfounded?"

Maya fumbled over her own words as she tried to pull her gaze away from Ace's storm-filled eyes. His harsh tone was completely dominating her. Maya was terrified but she couldn't help but bite back. "What the fuck!"

Ace raised a brow at Maya as she jumped off of the couch. His eyes darted straight towards her exposed neck. The mate marking stood out like a sore thumb, it was still fresh, it hasn't been there too long. Before Maya could process Ace's movements, she was pinned down on the couch. "Watch that tongue of yours, mi amor."

Ace's thumb tugged on Maya's bottom lip. He watched the movement with dark eyes. Maya wiggled, trying to get from underneath Ace, feeling completely powerless with him straddling her. "Ace, get off of me," Maya's voice was shaky, showing her fear.

Ace leaned down, his lips tickling her ear. "And if I don't? What are you going to do about it? You going to have that pathetic little mate of yours to come after me?" Maya stood silent, not sure how to respond to him. She definitely didn't want to drag Charlie into her problems with Ace, although he was already involved. "Hm?" Ace's teeth tugged on Maya's ear making her eyes widened.

"Cut it out Ace," Maya pushed Ace back. Maya noticed the blood that leaked from the corner of Ace's lips. Her hand shot up to her ear. She could feel the warm liquid trickle down onto her fingertips. "That's enough," Maya mumbled underneath her breath. Ace still heard her. "I Maya Anderson reject y-"

Maya's words were cut off when Ace's lips met hers in a forceful kiss. Maya's hands pushed against Ace's chest. Charlie was right. She shouldn't have come. She should have just left it alone. Maya used all her strength to shove Ace off of her. She finally was able to escape from underneath him. "I REJECT YOU, ALPHA ACE MARTINEZ!" Maya shouted. Ace froze. He was completely frozen. Maya turned around and ran out of the house with her eyes filled with tears. He did it again. He forced himself on her.

Ace released a nasty growl that was loud enough to reach Maya. "You're going to have to do more than that, mi amor." Ace's eyes were black as a horrifying grin that was played on his lips. Ace couldn't feel the pain of the broken mate bond at this point. His eyes sparkled with mischief.

Maya ran as fast as she could, her jeans being torn by the twigs that scratched her. Charlie. That's the only person that she wanted right now. She wanted the warmth that only he gave her. "Maya!"

Maya halted and turned to look at the person. Ivy stood there with Zac and Lucas beside her. She was dressed in plain black sweats and a white tanktop. Sweat dripped down all of their bodies as the sound of their heavy breathing filled the air. "What happened?" She muttered as her fingers grazed over her ear. Ivy held back the craving that she had when she saw Maya's blood dripping off of her fingertips.

"That damn Ace is what happened," Maya shivered. Her body was freezing despite it being 67 degrees out. "I've rejected him. Whenever you're ready." Maya words seemed far away as they slurred out of her mouth.

As Maya went to walk away, Ivy grabbed her wrist. "Wait, Charlie should be here in a few. Wait for him."

Maya nodded as she threw herself on the floor. She watched as Ivy, Zac and Lucas began their train once again. "Sorry I'm late!" His familiar voice rang in her ears. Maya snapped her head towards him, watching him run towards them. He halted as she sniffed the air, smiling Maya's pleasing scent in the air. "Maya?"

Charlie's eyes soon landed on her which she smiled softly back at him. As he walked closer to her he could smell Ace all over her. His eyes grew dark with irritation. Maya could care less. She threw herself into Charlie's arms, melting against his warmth. "You reek of him."

Charlie's voice was in a low whisper. Maya sighed as she tightened her grip on him. "Shut up."
