After being kidnapped then kicked out of the carriage by a bandit, Scar and Rebel try to follow the thief or at least try to get to the nearest village to stock up on supplies.
"I can't believe that jerk. He even took my money, I've only got three silver pieces left." Scar complained holding her money tightly in her fist. "It's not worth much and by how far we are from the heart we'll be broke a few weeks before we reach it."
"Don't worry, all we have to do is earn a few pieces."
"Did you say earn? You know that's not my style."
"Yeah, but you can't take the risk in people finding out who you are. So we just have to lie low." Rebel said as he stopped in front of a village. From the outside, you could already hear laughter coming children and families walking happily. Children were running around chasing each other and playing games. "This one seems lively, do you think somethings going on?" Rebel asked looking straight at them. However Scar did not reply, instead, she went straight into the village, her hoodie covering her face. As she entered nobody noticed her and her wolf companion.
"Hit the target, get twenty pieces per arrow!" A game host shouted which immediately grabbed scars attention. She looked over and saw a few people already gathered.
"Oh, I get it. This is a village where a lot of strangers and passersby go to if they want to earn quick money. Give it a try Scar." Rebel said a little encouragingly.
"Fine. But I'm a terrible shot." Scar warned and made her way to sign up. As she wrote a name down she heard some people talking and in the centre was a woman looking as young as her physical appearance.
"Mel. You're definitely gonna win this aren't you." Some boys encouraged the woman. She had long flowing blond hair and emerald green eyes.
"Of course I am. I'm a master shot." The woman said then made her way to sign up. She then turned back to the guys that were crowding her and winked. "You guys root for me ok." She said with a sweet confident smile and tone. The guys just nodded and looked on as if they were star struck.
Disgusting. Scar thought as she made her way to bows and arrows. She stood in her lane behind the safety line. The host then made everyone pick up a bow and arrow and stand in a lane so they would be hitting the same target.
"Why would they do that?"
"My guess is so that the arrows can bounce off each other and no one can reach the target." Scar heard some people, spectators, talking and immediately started focusing on the target. Her eyes then wandered over to her opponent. It was the woman from before. Her stance was firm and had a serious face. Her eyes were concentrating on hitting the target, it was as if everything around her was cut off and she couldn't hear a thing.
She let out a deep breath then as if in sync with her breathing the arrow flew straight to the bullseye hitting the centre firmly. After you could immediately hear cheers radiating from the crowd and the woman, Mel, confidently strolling to the host to collect her price as she saw countless competitors trying to hit the bullseye.
"Ok, so I'm horrible at archery but I am good at imitating, maybe I can copy what she did." Scar muttered to herself as she took the stance Mel had before. She then drew back the bow, aimed and fired. However, Scar didn't think that her thrust would be too strong that it would send the arrow off course. The arrow was nearing the target however it was going to go straight past it. Damn it! I'm gonna have to fix that. Scar thought as she tilted her head slightly, and at the same time, the arrow arched and hit the centre of the bull's eye knocking Mel's clean off. The crowd was a little dumbfounded at first, unsure of what happened, but then they began cheering again for their new champion. Scar awkwardly walked over to the host to receive the prize money.
"I guess we have two victors today! The undefeated Mel! Until today that is. And the mysterious... scam?" The host read out judgementally. "Whatever, we don't get to choose our names." He muttered then went back to declaring the end. "And since we have two winners, these two will get twenty silver pieces each!" The host said then handed them a bag full of money. Everyone applauded them and they were able to go back to their friends.
"Scam? Really?" Rebel said as he started walking on ahead.
"What? It sounded pretty good to me. The names are completely different." Scar said her voice sounding innocent.
"And what was that? You totally cheated back there." Rebel complained.
"Why don't you speak louder Rebel, I don't think the entire village heard you." Scar said angrily. "Besides you said we needed money and I got us some money. I don't see the problem if we're still surviving another day." Scar said and tucked the money away somewhere safe. They then continued making their way out of the village, but before they left the village someone grabbed onto Scars wrist stopping her from leaving. She looked back and saw a guy with blonde hair and blue eyes. He had a well-trained body and a sword on his back.
"Wait. Can you repeat that name?" He asked looking at the shadows on her face, completely hiding her identity. Rebel looked on as he broke into a cold sweat. Of course, someone would know it's her-it's cause of that name-it's just a matter of time that she was discovered. Rebel thought in a panic.
"Scam." She replied bluntly. The guy just let go with a goofy smile.
"Of course sorry I thought you were someone else. But there's no way, you have completely different names." The guy said then went back to the village.
"He's an idiot." Rebel said looking straight at the guy.
"I know. But I guess his stupidity is to thank that we can still make it out of this village in one piece." Scar said then starting walking straight.
"Hold on!" A voice came from behind them, making both Scar and Rebel look back. The voice belonged to Mel. She wore a dissatisfied look on her face causing some confusion to appear on both Rebels and Scars faces.
