Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The World Seed and the Opening of the Stark Expo

Midnight struck inside the Presidential Palace in Zubrovka.

Outside the high arched windows, snow fell quietly over the warm, lit avenues of the capital.

Inside his locked private office, Adrian sat alone behind the oak desk, watching the hands of the mechanical wall clock align at twelve.

A translucent blue notification box hovered directly before his eyes.

<< Annual Sign-In available. Sign in? >>

"Yes," Adrian thought.

A quiet resonance rippled through his consciousness, pulling his awareness inward.

Resting at the core of his soul was a dense, crystalline sphere of condensed cosmic law—the World Seed.

It was an embryonic pocket dimension, an unformed spatial expanse waiting to be shaped.

Within his mind, Sophia deployed layered computational barriers in an instant.

<< Sophia: Dimensional anomaly detected: World Seed integration underway. >>

<< Action: Suppressing spatial birth ripples. Layering psionic dampening fields across local spacetime. >>

<< Result: Dimensional expansion masked. Spatial fluctuations neutralized to prevent detection by external sorcerers or cosmic observers. >>

Adrian focused inward, projecting his perception into the newly anchored space.

It was an entirely private realm roughly the size of a mountain valley, vacuum-sealed, dark, and completely motionless.

No foreign spy satellite, thermal camera, or outside entity could see inside.

Here, he could test advanced transmutation, store strategic reserves, and fabricate classified technology in absolute secrecy.

Two months passed. The winter freeze broke into early spring. It was mid-March 2010.

Adrian traveled to District 7 in Novi Grad to inspect the newly completed municipal geothermal heating station.

Instead of delegating the review to regional directors, Adrian walked the main subterranean pipeline alongside the chief engineer.

He checked the pressure gauges on the high-temperature manifolds and greeted the maintenance crew working the lower valves.

"The deep thermal loop is running at ninety-eight percent efficiency, Mr. President," the engineer reported, adjusting a brass valve wheel. "The heat pumps are warming twenty-four residential blocks using zero coal."

Across the street at a municipal washhouse, three elderly women folded clean linens, talking among themselves as the warm pipes hummed beneath the tile floor.

"My heating bill was zero this month," one woman said, smiling as she shook out a wool blanket. "Not a single kopek. And my grandson doesn't need three coats to sleep through the night."

"The schools have hot water in the taps now, too," her neighbor agreed. "The ministers from the old days never gave us a single radiator that actually worked."

In the station's control room, five young graduates from the Novi Grad Polytechnic Institute monitored the digital turbine displays.

They calibrated the domestic alloy casings with pride, noting that their own locally milled components ran smoother than the old imported European hardware.

One month passed. It was mid-April 2010.

Adrian returned to the subterranean vaults beneath the captured northern mountain base.

He stood before twenty tons of raw iron slag, river gravel, and discarded alloy cuttings.

Adrian opened a silent dimensional fold directly into the World Seed.

With a single thought, the mountain of industrial debris vanished from the warehouse floor, shifting into the pocket dimension without sound or displacement.

Inside the vacuum of the World Seed, Adrian exercised his Transmutation Authority.

Without needing alchemical circles or worrying about foreign satellite eyes, he broke down the gravel and slag, refining it into pure lithium bars, monocrystalline silicon, and reinforced structural alloys.

Across the country, Pietro and Wanda kept the civilian foundation solid.

Wanda managed the regional distribution networks, ensuring state clinics and farming collectives received supplies without bureaucratic delays.

Pietro coordinated rail transit security, keeping the national freight lines moving ahead of schedule.

One month passed. It was mid-May 2010.

Inside his locked palace office, Adrian sat before his private console.

Sophia's voice spoke silently inside his thoughts as encrypted international news feeds flashed across the confidential monitor.

<< Sophia: American signals intelligence update. >>

<< Target: Tony Stark and Stark Industries. >>

<< Details: Anthony Stark has officially opened the 2010 Stark Expo in Flushing Meadows, New York, staging a massive public performance in his Mark IV armor. >>

<< Congressional Hearing: US Senate Armed Services Committee hearings stalled after Stark publicly humiliated rival contractor Justin Hammer, exposing Hammer's failed attempts to replicate the armored suit. >>

<< Target Movement: Stark has departed the United States via private jet to attend the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. >>

<< S.H.I.E.L.D. Status: Director Nicholas J. Fury has assigned field agents to monitor Stark's escalating public controversies and erratic behavior. Sokovian surveillance remains locked at lowest automated tier: Green: Routine Monitoring. >>

Adrian shut down the secure terminal.

The American military, intelligence agencies, and defense lobbies were completely absorbed in fighting over armored suits and tracking their billionaire contractor across the globe.

Pietro and Wanda walked onto the palace balcony, joining Adrian as the afternoon sun illuminated Zubrovka.

Down along the central boulevard, an electric streetcar hummed along newly laid tracks, passing quiet plazas filled with workers and school children.

Pietro leaned against the stone railing, folding his arms. "The capital is completely quiet. In America, they have billionaires flying across television screens in armor suits, while our biggest task this week is laying new asphalt out to the southern orchards."

"Quiet is how a country builds strength, Pietro," Adrian said calmly.

He rested his hand against the balcony stone, feeling the steady presence of the World Seed resting securely within his soul.

"Let them put on their shows in Monaco," Adrian said. "We have work to do."
