Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Monaco Grand Prix and Expanding the Seed

Late in May 2010, two weeks after the opening of the Stark Expo in New York, Adrian visited the newly completed Central Agricultural Machinery Depot on the outskirts of Novi Grad.

Instead of wearing a formal presidential suit, he arrived in dark canvas trousers and a standard technician's jacket. Two hundred newly assembled electric harvesters sat parked in neat rows across the concrete floor, their domestic alloy chassis gleaming under the high bay lights.

Adrian climbed into the driver's cab of the lead harvester, sliding into the seat beside an apprentice mechanic who hurriedly wiped grease from his steering wheel.

"Test the secondary draw on the hydraulic lift," Adrian instructed, leaning over to inspect the digital dashboard readouts.

The apprentice flipped the toggle switch. The heavy front cutting blades rose smoothly with a steady hydraulic whine, the battery gauge barely registering a flicker of voltage drop.

"Three percent line resistance, Mr. President," the apprentice reported with a broad grin. "The copper busbars forged in the mountain base hold charge twice as long as the old diesel alternators."

"Keep the tolerances tight," Adrian said, patting the young man's shoulder as he climbed down the ladder. "These machines hit the southern fields by Tuesday."

Inside the depot's canteen, a half-dozen veteran mechanics sat around a wooden table over bowls of hot goulash.

"My state wage cleared two days early," one older lathe operator said, tapping his bankbook on the table. "Backed by sovereign gold and national grain reserves. No foreign banks devaluing our paper, and no worthless vouchers."

Near the loading docks, an elderly warehouse supervisor spoke with Pietro, gesturing toward a row of refrigerated transport vans. "My wife couldn't believe it this morning, Miss Maximoff's distribution vans delivered fresh milk and orchard fruit straight to the neighborhood co-op at sunrise. No black-market middlemen doubling the price at the district border."

Pietro leaned against the railing, checking the dispatch ledger. "That's the standard now. If a delivery falls behind by an hour, the station manager answers to the ministry."

That evening, Adrian descended into the private workshop beneath the Presidential Palace.

Locking the reinforced steel door behind him, he projected his consciousness into the World Seed anchored within his soul.

The pocket dimension opened as a silent, vacuum-sealed valley of dark stone, entirely insulated from external reality.

Fifty tons of dense basalt bedrock, shifted from northern tunnel excavations, lay stacked in the center of the dimensional void. Standing over the stone, Adrian exercised his Transmutation Authority.

Without alchemical circles or ritual preparation, blue sparks flickered quietly through the vacuum.

<< Sophia: Atomic restructuring initialized. Basalt lattice broken down into pure silicon substrates and refined lithium matrix blocks. >>

<< Stress simulation: Solar receptor efficiency projected at forty-one percent. Zero thermal bleed. >>

The jagged rock dissolved into fluid form, separating into stacked rows of high-grade monocrystalline solar plates and heavy lithium battery blocks. In the absolute privacy of the Seed, Adrian constructed the foundations of the first automated sub-assembly line, shielded completely from foreign spy satellites and radar sweeps.

In early June 2010, international sports networks broadcast live coverage of the Historic Grand Prix from Circuit de Monaco.

Inside the palace office, Sophia routed the raw international feed to Adrian's private monitor.

On the television screen, Tony Stark made an abrupt, reckless decision to strap himself into his vintage blue-and-white race car, taking the wheel on the active street track.

Moments into the race, an unkempt man wearing an orange technician's jumpsuit stepped directly onto the asphalt. He ignited two roaring plasma-energized whips, slicing through the barriers with a snap of ionized electricity.

As Stark's vehicle barreled around the turn, the rogue attacker lashed out, cutting the race car cleanly in half. Metal screamed, and tires flew as the wreckage tumbled down the track.

Stark scrambled out of the smoking frame just as Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts rammed their limousine into the assailant against the crash barrier. Stark caught a red-and-silver briefcase thrown from the car, stepping into its expanding mechanized plates to form the Mark V portable armor.

After a brutal exchange of repulsor blasts and electric whip strikes, Stark tore the miniature Arc Reactor from the man's chest, subduing him as French police flooded the track.

Sophia's voice spoke silently inside Adrian's mind.

<< Sophia: Encrypted signals intercept: Monaco Department of Justice and Hammer Advanced Weapons Systems. >>

<< Details: Justin Hammer has initiated back-channel wire transfers to corrupt prison officials. A diversionary corpse swap is being coordinated to extract the prisoner, identified as Ivan Vanko, to manufacture weaponized combat drones for Hammer Industries. >>

Pietro and Wanda stood beside Adrian's desk, watching the recorded satellite replay on the confidential screen.

Pietro shook his head, pointing at the severed formula car. "The man is worth billions, and he's crashing race cars in France while guys with electric whips cut him in half. Is this what passes for leadership in the West?"

Wanda crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing as she studied the close-up camera angles of Stark's face. "He's dying. Look at his skin. Those dark lines around his neck... whatever is powering that suit in his chest is poisoning him, and he's acting out because he thinks he has no time left."

"Desperation makes people sloppy," Adrian said, shutting off the private monitor. "Hammer will try to copy Vanko's tech, Stark will double down, and the American military will scramble to clean up the mess. While they stage their circus, we finish our summer harvest."

Inspector Radovan knocked and stepped into the office, presenting the interior ministry's monthly dispatch.

"Mr. President," Radovan reported, handing over the folder. "Border patrols confirm complete operational silence across the northern perimeter. Foreign corporate probes have completely ceased. Meanwhile, summer grain planting has broken every historical yield record across seven provinces."

Wanda reviewed the attached medical manifest. "The pharmaceutical labs in Trnava have met one hundred percent of our domestic quotas for insulin and basic antibiotics. No regional hospital needs to request foreign medicine shipments."

Adrian signed the executive logistics decree, stamping the seal onto the parchment.

"Keep the borders sealed and the supply trains running on schedule," Adrian said. "Let the rest of the world look toward Monaco and New York. Sokovia stands on its own."
