Chapter 3 - 02 - The Realm of the Undead II

''It'' was just another corpse, walking, dragging it's feet and following the crowd of dead bodies that were roaming without destination... Or so it was supossed to.

For an instant, the eye sockets of ''It'' expelled a flash of green light, and after that ''It'' stopped moving... In that instant it's ''mind'' was starting to change. ''It'' was now becoming self-aware.

''It'' looked at it's skeleton hands for few seconds and started to move again, but it was not a moving just by reflex like the other corpses in that herd; now the movements of ''It'' seemed to have a purpose. ''It'' moved forwards one of it's hands, as trying to reach for something. The hand landed on the skull of one of the many skeletons ahead. Having a hand touching it's face was no big deal for that skeleton. The deads were ''used'' to bump against the walls of the cave or another wandering corpse; so physical contact was an usual thing for them. But the difference was, unlike the usual, this physical contact was made on purpose.

'It'' and the corpse that had his skull trapped, both of them stopped moving, or maybe it would be more appropriate to say that ''It'' was preventing the other skeleton from moving. When they both were static, the eye sockets of ''It'' started to shine again, but this time the green light was more intense, but this was not all; with a scream that would froze the blood of anyone hearing, every bone from the corpse started to fall apart and disintegrate into a soft green light while being absorbed by the hand of ''It''.

Despite the blood-chilling scream that reverberated inside that cave, not even one member of the herd showed interest in what just happened. Maybe the undead were deaf? that was a possibility, or maybe they didn't have consideration towards any undead but themselves; after all... None of them showed signs of intelligence, excepto for ''It'' who was now watching carefully the hand that had assimilated that undead few seconds earlier.

''It'' was just there, standing. One could say that ''It'' was curious and even amazed by what happened. How ''It'' did that? ''It'' wasn't sure, also wasn't sure about if that would work again, or if would be a good idea to try that again, anyway, ''It'' didn't even remember what was it's intention in first place; all ''It'' knew was that, for some reason, that felt good... ''It'' felt like it's mind, if ''It'' did have one, was clear for first time.

But even with that nice sensation, something still did not feel correct. This ''mental clarity'' wasn't enough... How can it be enough? Even ''It'' couldn't remember why ''It'' decided to touch the skull of that undead... And feeling like this, ''It'' knew exactly what was going to do.

----

After a while ''It'' was just looking at it's bony hands, still amazed by that strange ''skill'' he possessed. ''It'' had already assimilated a few undeads, and thanks to that, ''It'' could finally reach certain level of lucidity, in which ''It'' was now able of articulate complex thoughts inside it's head. And now feeling satisfied by the clarity of it's mind, ''It'' closed both hands and walked to the nearest wall of the cave, and started to carefully watch all that the mist allowed and so ''It'' being able of articulate thoughts, started to give form to certain ideas, with the first being a question... ''Where I am?''
