The room went predictably wild the second Fidelia settled onto Christopher's lap. His friends had apparently never once seen a woman make the first move on him — by the sound of their reaction, there was an unspoken rule about that, one Fidelia had just casually shattered without seeming to notice or care. The two rejected women turned an even deeper shade of red across the room, and Fidelia spared them exactly none of her attention.
Christopher, for his part, was more thrown than he'd admit out loud. He'd suspected there was something different about her since the airport, but this — her bare back inches from his hands, every nerve in his body suddenly very aware of that fact — was a different category of surprise entirely. He'd met plenty of confident women before. None of them had ever made confidence look quite this effortless.
"What exactly are you doing?" he murmured against her ear.
