For a while after Gabrielle disappeared from my sight, I sat by myself, staring out at the ocean while thinking over everything she'd said.
She wasn't wrong when she'd identified the problem I had with Evan's intentions. I already knew that myself.
But talking to her gave me a bit of an idea of how to deal with that problem—something I had no idea how to deal with before I spoke with her.
Evan. The Wedding. The Demonic Hand.
Fiancé. Occasion. Enemy.
Thoughts of how Evan's strategic thinking had somehow become tangled with something that should've been entirely personal to the two of us filled my head, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that I didn't actually want Evan to abandon his plan.
That wasn't the problem.
