"So this is what passes for a god?"
Outside the screen, Stephen Strange shot a sideways glance full of contempt at Thor. "You call yourself the God of Thunder. So, what—you're on the same team as that clown in the video? Rapu or whatever?"
Deadpool gasped dramatically and clapped both hands over his mouth like a horrified Victorian debutante. "Oh my God, Stephen! Did you just sass the Thunder Bro? You know he could literally lightning-slap you into next Tuesday, right? Zap-zap, crispy wizard!"
The others were also eyeing Thor with clear disgust.
Thor's face darkened as he waved them off. "No! Absolutely not! I would never associate with that… that bastard."
To be fair, Thor might always be boasting about his strength and throwing around the whole "I'm a god, kneel before me" vibe, but once you actually spent some time with the guy, you'd realize he wasn't that bad.
After all, Thor had always seen himself as a protector of Asgard—hell, of all Nine Realms. Sure, he had his pride, but he also never hesitated to fight for his people. Unlike that piece of crap Rapu, who not only mocked his followers but casually murdered them.
Thor could never do something that low.
Facing the mocking, suspicious gazes of Stephen Strange and the other players, Thor exploded: "The gods of Asgard are like lions of the plains—we protect our people! Our claws and fangs are for our enemies, not our own. Don't lump us in with the filth you just saw on screen!"
He was pissed—but nobody argued with him anymore. Everyone turned their attention back to the glowing screen.
In the video, Gorr was in agony, about to be strangled to death by the very god he once worshipped…
A mortal was no match for a god. The poor father who had lost his daughter was now about to lose his own life.
But just then, a whisper echoed in his mind, eerie and seductive:
"You need the power of vengeance... Kill all gods… claim Eternity… summon the Bifrost… claim Eternity..."
As the chilling voice whispered on, the Necrosword—silent and forgotten—slid across the ground, arriving right at Gorr's side. He didn't even have to reach for it. The hilt practically offered itself into his hand.
And the moment he grasped it, without a second's hesitation, Gorr drove the blade forward—piercing Rapu's throat clean through.
Even though the title had already spoiled it, watching a mortal kill a god with your own eyes was… something else.
Outside the video, Billy Butcher and Hughie Campbell exchanged a glance. They didn't say anything, but it was clear—they were thinking the exact same thing.
To them, those so-called gods—arrogant, brutal, inhuman—were no different from the super-powered jerks they were trying to take down.
If a mortal could kill a god, then taking out a couple of "supes" didn't sound that impossible anymore.
Meanwhile, Thor's eyes went wide. "I know that sword! That's the Necrosword. Any god slain by it… is truly dead. Gone."
Stephen scoffed. "Well, if that's what passes for a god, then good riddance."
Thor gave him a sharp look. "There are good people and bad people in this world—and it's the same with gods. But that sword? It's the enemy of all gods."
In the video, Rapu knelt, golden, oil-like blood pouring from the wound in his throat. He wasn't dead yet, but he was fading fast.
Feeling his divine strength slipping away, Rapu stared at Gorr in disbelief. "The Necrosword chose you? Then… you are cursed…"
But Gorr didn't care about curses anymore.
He had lost his daughter. He had nearly lost his own life. If the Necrosword had chosen him now, it was salvation, not damnation.
He looked down at the blade in his hand and saw black veins creeping up his skin like corruption spreading through his blood.
This was clearly the curse Rapu had mentioned.
But Gorr just said, "Interesting. Doesn't feel like a curse… more like a promise."
His face was blank as he drew the sword free and raised it high.
"This is my vow—all gods must die."
And with a single, brutal swing, he severed the head of the once-mighty god Rapu.
The video ended.
For the new players watching, it felt like a slick, high-budget movie. But for Thor… it hit different.
He knew this was his future. The God Butcher's target wasn't just Rapu—it was every god. Including him.
Worse yet, when the Necrosword whispered to Gorr, it had mentioned the Bifrost and Eternity. One was directly tied to Asgard. The other… involved something far bigger.
But strangely, this short video didn't make much of a splash on Earth.
In modern society, belief in gods had become private, transactional, almost commercialized. It was nothing like the ancient days when deities and temples ruled everything.
More importantly, people these days worshipped selfless heroes—not mythical gods.
Even Thor himself—had it not been for the Avengers, most humans wouldn't even know who he was. And now that they did? They still didn't bow and scrape the way ancient humans did.
The age of gods was over.
People had learned that instead of worshipping some ancient myth, it was better to create new gods—superheroes.
Selfless, brave, willing to sacrifice everything to save others. Superheroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Superman, Batman...
They were flawed. Human. Real. But their hearts beat with justice. Worshipping heroes like them felt far more genuine than kneeling to some ancient, cruel deity.
So for most of Earth's viewers, the God Butcher was just another villain in a cool video.
But across the cosmos… in realms still ruled by gods… this was something else.
To them, this video wasn't entertainment—it was a declaration of war.
In the mysterious space of Eternity, a new question popped up on the glowing screen:
[Who among the following will become the next true wielder of Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor?]
[A: Hela, Goddess of Death
B: Sif, the Valkyrie
C: Jane Foster
D: Valkyrie]
Thor read the question and nearly lost it.
"Wait—wait a minute! Mjolnir is mine! Only I can lift it—uh, I mean—only I am its true master! There's no way… absolutely no way there's a second wielder!"
