Chapter 67 - Uproar

The headmaster gestured for everyone to quiet down, unleashing an invisible soothing aura to the surroundings.

The crowd felt a sense of calm invade their previously chaotic state of minds, weirdly enough, no student seemed to notice.

However, even that couldn't stop the shock that each person present has felt.

"Does that mean.... He actually broke it?"

"Look, the stone isn't turning black like again..."

"How much strength does he have?"

Although not as chaotic as before, some murmurs still spread throughout the crowd.

Seeing that the crowd has calmed down quite a bit, the headmaster and the other instructors turned their attention to the young man responsible for all of this.

"Student, what is your name?" The headmaster asked Clay.

"Uhh, C-Clay Mapa, Sir headmaster." Clay nervously replied, fearing that he did something wrong by breaking something probably expensive.

"Hahaha, no need to be nervous young man, call me Sir Lorei." The headmaster chuckled.

"May I ask how you broke the testing stone?"

The headmaster asked Clay as he wasn't present when Clay broke the Öbedanite, he was only present during the aftermath, when the shockwave spread throughout the whole academy and could be felt from his office.

The headmaster thought that the students were under attack so he came here as fast as he could, using his fastest teleportation spell.

Upon arriving however, he was more than surprised to see that it was not an attack, instead, it was a student that was responsible for the tremors in the academy.

"Uhm, I just punched the stone.... and it broke, I'm sorry..." Clay looked down at the ground, his eyes darting around nervously.

"You just.... punched it..?" The headmaster repeated, unsure if what he heard was right.

"Yeah, and it broke, I'm sorry if it was importa-" Clay tried to apologize for breaking the stone but was cut off.

"No, no, no, it's alright young man, you are not in trouble, we are just surprised that someone was able to break Öbedanite."

"From ever since it was discovered, cases where Öbedanite has turned white or have been shattered like this is rare. I believe only less than a handful of individuals are capable of such a feat."

The headmaster recalled, drawing out some more gasps from the crowd behind.

"So.... I'm not in trouble then?" Clay perked up.

"Goodness, no, quite the opposite actually." The headmaster chuckled.

It was at this point that someone spoke up.

"I remember a certain someone making a bet that whoever broke the stone would receive 10,000 Credits." Charlot smirked, glancing in Tom's direction.

Upon hearing this, all color drained from Tom's face. When before he looked like a shiny potato when the angle of the sun was right, now he looked like a wrinkled white onion.

Deflated, Tom could only raise his head, trying to think of an excuse, however none came to mind, leaving him only to sigh in resignation.

Teachers also could earn credits, they could use those credits to purchase various products, magical items, and other miscellaneous things.

And those 10,000 credits Tom had betted? Those had to come from his own pockets.

Thus, resulting in this situation where Tom clutched his heart with a pained expression.

"I will have the credits prepared after today's activity...."

If Tom could go back in time, he surely would have

"No need, I will handle that matter, for now however, continue on with today's activities." The headmaster turned towards the fragments of the Öbedanite scattered around the place.

"Rewind." The headmaster whispered as he tapped his cane gently on the ground.

And following that command, under everyone's eyes, just when they thought that they couldn't get any more surprised than they already were, the shattered fragments slowly floated up and miraculously pieced themselves together until they looked like how they were before being broken by Clay.

The headmaster nodded at each instructor present, before a distortion in space appeared in front of him and swallowed him whole.

And just like that, he was gone as fast as he came.

Still standing before the instructors, Clay scratched his cheek, unsure of how to proceed.

"Alright, Clay, correct? You may go back in line—wait, actually, line up for the next test." Charlot instructed Clay.

Following her instructions, Clay nodded and proceeded to line up in front of a crystal blue orb which had a mystical aura around it, Clay assumed that it would be a mystic test this time.

Other students who have also already finished with the strength test followed and lined up behind Clay.

Rafael adjusted his glasses as he stared at the line of students in front of him.

"For this next test, we would be assessing your intelligence, mana, and mystic through this crystal orb beside me. Just place your hands on the orb and it would determine your results." Rafael explained without wasting any time.

Rafael glanced at Clay, signaling him to step up as he was first in line.

Clay nodded nervously.

'I sure do hope I won't break it this time...' Clay thought to himself.

Clay approached the crystal or under the gaze of almost everyone, with his best friend Josh and the others also being curious on what result he would achieve.

"Just place your hand on the crystal orb and it will glow according to your mana." Rafael shortly explained.

Clay nodded as he placed both his hands on the crystal orb.

The orb was smooth and cold to the touch, like holding a sphere of ice.

Shortly after, the orb started releasing a soft hum to the surroundings, it felt like someone was tickling the insides of your ear.

The orb glowed brighter for a brief moment, afterwards, it dimmed, then, once again, rapidly glowed, however while the orb was glowing, it alternated between different shades colors; purple, red, orange, yellow, green, and lingered on white for a while before it dimmed down to black.

Rafael observed all that was happening with watchful eyes, a glint of curiosity in his eyes.

"Black.... this means that your intelligence and mystic are around the tens range?" Rafael cocked his head to the side.

Clay raised his brows upon hearing that. He was sure that his mystic and intelligence were well over a thousand.

However, he didn't feel the need to clarify that, after all, there was no bet this time with any clear benefits if he scored high.

Clay nodded to Rafael and proceeded to wait for the next test.
